window tinting question

I want to tint the windows in my car. I was reading in the owners manual that window tinting on the back window may negatively affect the Nav system. Does anyone have any experience with this or recommendations?

Thanks

As long as you stick with a tinting technology that only utilizes dyed film you should be OK, since it doesn’t use any metallic materials. But if you are looking to get a reflective looking tint then you will need to use a tinting technology that utilizes a metalized coating which many interfere with your Navigation's GPS reception.

^^^^^Partially incorrect.

It's metallized tints that can throw off the navi, though not in every case. Dye-based technology (less expensive) or ceramic tint (more expensive, $$$) don't have any effect on the navi. My car is tinted and I've chosen the dye-based route as no one in my area does ceramic.

I used Johnson Greystone-click on my car, but there are many other more popular companies (Llumar, etc.) out there, depends on local availability. Mine has lasted two years with no problem.

As already indicated, just stay away from the metallic based tints. I chose the ceramic based tint and have had no problems with the NAVI system.

Yeah I guess, and the push button shade as well.

Depends on how much tint you use. Mine still visibly functions because I put only 50% tint on. When added to the small amount of factory tint, that takes me just below border of legality in Ohio on the front side windows. Don't have time to be pulled over in an emergency situation because some cop doesn't like my tint....

Just tell the tint shop to use non-metallic tint for the back window.
