What's your technique for a clean start?

Whenever I first get in the car to drive after it is parked and turn the starter, it almost always gets hung up at the first stop (almost as if I'm trying to start the car without the key in my pocket). The steering wheel moves into position, I turn the key, and get foiled. The second try almost always works, and I've done nothing different (like cranking the wheel over, or pressing on the brake).

What is your technique for getting a clean start?

By the way, once the car is started, I really enjoy the ride. But it is a little embarrassing to have to go through several tries to get underway.

I hardly ever have the problem. 99% of the time I just turn the key. Try jiggling the steering wheel back and forth before you start.

Ditto. I just flick the switch, it's pretty much effortless (unless there's spring in the steering system, in which case sometimes I have to jiggle the wheel a bit) and once it's unlocked it starts instantly.

You don't even have to hold the starter switch... just make contact in the "Start" position and the engine cranks until it catches.

Agreed...haven't experienced this issue. Just flick and go..no holding it in the start position. Kind of neat how that works.

I can't quite get to the start position on that first pass.

The "key-a-ma-blob" stops moving once the steering wheel starts to move into place. I have to release the "key-a-ma-blob" and try again -- at which point the "k-a-m-b" goes smoothly to the start position and car fires up.

Maybe I need to sneak up on it and surprise it!

No starting issues with mine, either. Sounds like something to have the dealer take a look at.

if i turned the car off with the steering wheel rotated (pulling into parking space), when i turn on the car it gets stuck in the 1st quarter turn. jiggle the steering wheel and it's all good.

When getting in or out of the car, do you grab onto the wheel to assist you in exiting/entering? Perhaps you're accidently locking up the steering wheel.

Never really bothered me, I just jiggle the wheel and go.

I found if you turn your hand too slowly the whole sequence gets messed up and you end up with the result you've gotten. Don't be tentative. Act quickly.

I've been working on turning the "key" more quickly and crisply. I can get clean starts without the key hangup that way. It seems to get stuck when you're going slowly - which I tend to do when surrounded by all that RL luxury!
