What is your RL confused with?!?
As I'm returning to my silver '06 RL (parked safely in an end spot at the mall) with my wife, we see two lady shoppers walking up to my RL, pulling the door handles and then fumbling around for keys. I'm wondering what the heck is going on? What car are they confusing my RL with?
Then I look one row ahead of my car, and parked in an end space is a brand new silver Mercedes S550. Realizing the situation, I say, "Close, but not quite." They look up and head towards their car, apologetic and embarrassed. I threw in a "Trade ya'!", but they don't seem interested.... As we board the RL, I tell my wife, "There's my next car."
From the rear, the cars do bear a certain similarity -- slightly "bustly" trunk, forward-swept wraparound tail lights, trunk-mounted license plate. The S-Class just might be the highest-end car that an RL might be confused with.

My RL is never confused.
In fact. I find my RL more intelligent than the majority of drivers on the road.

I from the rearview I have been asked it it was a MB. Not so much from the front, which I find very Japanese. I have been told the frontend has an 'angry' look.

I don't think there will be too many more MB comparos with the styling changes MB is making (and Acura
). I somewhat like the front end of the new E Class. But the new rear tailights of the E look Lincoln to me. They look like they came off a Navigator.

I think the rear lines somewhat resembles a Bentley Continental Coupe GT.

My RL is confused with nearly every other black sedan...by my 2 year old. He points at every black sedan and says "Dadda Car!".
He definitely seems to be an RL man though. He much prefers sitting in the driver's seat of the RL than the XC70.

Insulting comparison: Hyundai Sonata
Norm: Honda Accord
Highest praise: Lexus GS350
Funniest comparison moment: Parked my RL at the Acura service bay waiting for an attendance. An older couple parks behind me, gets out and I hear the wife says “Honey, why does his RL looks better then ours? (They had a 09)

I will agree with the statements made about the front end looking mean. NBP at night looking almost straight down at the front...damn thing looks like it wants to eat you for dinner.

the RL is a sharp looking car. it is unique as well. "non car people" don't know what it is and mistake it for other stuff. people who "know cars" recognize it as a high end Acura. while a lot of those "car people" will sitll prefer the M/B, BMW, Lexus, etc..they respect the RL for what it is. great value in the luxury car segment.
Nobody has mistaken the car for something else on my end. It just blends in. Honda products generally get a lot of attention only when done badly, otherwise they are just another car on the road I have found. New TL and to a lesser extent the 09 RL are exempt where they do get noticed due to the comic book styling.
Agreed with 470hpGS400. The RL is nice, but tends to blend in. I don't exactly get comments, questions, thumbs up, people breaking their necks to stare, like I do in my MR2 Spyder, for example...and that's because it doesn't really look like anything special. It has the same basic styling of a lot of lesser cars out there...but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate it for what it is!
I have to disagree, I get stares.
People have no idea what they're looking at but they like it. Especially because it doesn't have an RL symbol on the back as that has been crapped on pretty thouroughly by the magazines and newspapers.

It's getting stares because you lowered a car on stock rims. I would stare and shake my head also. When are you planning on getting some wheels on that thing? Plus I thought you were going to paint the front beak. It will look hot then.
I guess it all depends on your perspective. In my other car, I get people taking cell phone pics of my car as we're going down the road...asking "how fast will that thing go?", "is that a Porsche?", etc, etc.
I feel anonymous, by comparison in my grocery getter RL.
