What engine scanner is best to get

I'm wanting to get an engine scanner to look up any codes and have the ability to reset and clear the codes. Also want to be able to clear and reset AFS errors and others as well, not just engine codes. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not sure what language i.e. OBD2? Is this what Acura uses? Rather a novice here but Don't want to pay 75 bucks at the shop every time I get a code. I like to repair what I can when I can.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I used a generic brand OBDII scanner on my '03 CL. It wasn't mine, so I can't say that it definitely works on the RL, but I can't imagine it wouldn't. Search eBay, they're cheap on there.

The cheapo ones should work for the Check Engine Light reading and clearing, but your problem is going to be the AFS errors. Those diagnostic codes are not part of the generic OBDII code set, so in order to read that system, you'd need the proprietary Honda tool and it's not cheap... at least $2K if you want to get it for yourself.

May I ask which one you found that does all this? If they are the ones from China, I would be very careful. 99% of them are fake and don't work properly.
