What does RL stand for?

I was at the Acura dealership, and the sales manager mentioned that the RL was designed by Ralph Lauren himself. Is there any truth to this?

RL = Refined Luxury
TL = Touring Luxury
CL = Coupe Luxury

I'm pretty sure that the RL was designed by Honda engineers, unless Ralph decided to become an engineer, I highly doubt he was the one that designed the RL ...

The Ralph Lauren models are fake! They are manufactured in sweatshops in Eastern Europe and usually are found being hawked as the real deal in flea markets alongside fake Lexus GS Gucci Editions.

Buyer Beware.

I thought it was a fake, which is why we ended up with a TL

If you can find the original advertising materials from the gen1 launch in 95 you'll see the RL stood for 'Road Luxury'. I've seen the phrase 'Refined Luxury' in RL print, but not included in a "stands for" statement.

Nothing. And thats official.

RL = Road Luxury

In addition only the NSX (New Sports Experiment), TL (Touring Luxury) and CL (Coupe Luxury) had Acura press material explaining their meanings.

MDX = MDX stands for "Multi Dimension X", meaning that it is an SUV with multiple advanced features giving it unknown potential.

I remember when the 1G RL made its debut in 1996, Road & Track, tongue and cheek said, maybe it should stand for Relaxed Luxury, based on how the engine characteristics and how the car handled (big contrast from the 2G Legend to an value oriented LS400 copy.

Replaced Legend

The suspension/engine tuning in the 2002 - 2004 RL is what it should have been the whole time. I wouldn't call it sporty, but its fun to drive.

Before I forget...

CL - Contemporary Luxury
TL - Touring Luxury
MDX - Multi-Dimensional X-Over
NSX - New Sports Xotic
TSX - Touring Sports Something (I can't remember them all)
RSX - I think it was... Recreational Sports Xotic
RDX... don't know

If Acura really wanted to promote the RL, they would do commercials, etc. stating "RL" means "Return of the Legend."
