Weird Clock Problem - 05 RL

I have an 05 RL that has some weird stuff happening with the clock. When I start the car, the clock displays the correct time. After about 3-5 seconds, the clock displays a time that is several hours off, but then after another couple of minutes it resets itself back to the correct time. This happens every time I start the car and never again until the next time the car is started.

The time is not consistently off by an hour or two hours, but is off by several hours and some minutes...for instance, the current time is 1:00pm...it displays 1:00pm at startup, then switches to 4:22pm and then back to 1:00pm after a few minutes. It varies with every startup of the car.

Anyone else ever run across this? I've done a search and turned up some stuff on daylight savings time, but I played with those settings and accomplished nothing.

I think the clock is tied in with the navigation feed. The clock is not retaining the correct time once the car is turned off.

You should take it to the dealer.

When this happens, do you get streaks of colored lights?

Does this only happen when you speak the word 'Engage'?

Is there a tall grumpy guy sulking about whose forehead looks like a Hyundai Genesis grille (aka the 'Genesis Device').

When it fixes itself, does some guy with pointy eyes raise one eyebrow and exclaim 'Facinating!'.

Do you always get the alien chicks???

Yep...time for the dealer. Your dilithium crystals are breaking down.

I took it into the dealer to diagnose this problem, and they were initially mystified. To their credit, they worked on it for a while and found a service bulletin from Acura that identified a firmware upgrade was required to the nav unit to fix the issue. Apparently, the nav unit in my 05 was older and unable to be upgraded, so they had to order/install a new nav unit then apply the patch. Luckily, it was all covered under warranty...a new nav unit cost ~$3k.

Everything is working fine now, but I didn't end up with a newer nav disc out of the whole affair. I guess I'll just wait for 4.7x to be released.

glad it was fixed.

another argument why an extended warranty is needed on this car with the technology components.

what is the VIN of your RL? 00001?
