wagner thermoquiet pads

anyone run these pads. what did you think of them. i have run them on vehicles in the past and liked them for just daily driving. they have a lifetime warranty. not going to be tracking my car so i thought these would suffice.

thanks

Talked to a friend of a friend who's an extremely intelligent mechanic. His recommendation, specifically for the RL, was to stick with OEM brake pads. I think the reason was that if you replace the OEMs with pads that have different stopping behavior (and they all do), you confuse the electronic nannies that run our stability control system and SH-AWD by giving them different behavior than they're calibrated to expect from the brakes. Convinced me.

if u ran these pads in the past and you liked them, whats the point of asking if people if they like them? you just answered your own question.

i figured i would find someone that had run these pads and also ran good pads like ebc. i have never ran expensive pads, so what i think are "good pads", might not be that great if i have never experienced "good pads"

i just put some on mine about 2 months ago. no noticeable difference between those and OEM except maybe a little more brake dust. i'm happy with them.

I agree all brake pads have different stopping behaviors, but even if you stick with OEM pads they will have different stopping behaviors depending on whether it's hot, cold, wet, dry and/or several other factors. The braking system is designed to have some flexibility to account for variation in pad performance. Do you know if the mechanic only recommended Acura OEM pads, as other companies sale pads built to OEM specs?

I would like to see some scientific data on how non-OEM brake pads will "confuse" the RL electronics. Having electronics and sensors actually makes the car smarter so it can account for different brake pads, tires, drivers, roads, weather, etc.

Most, if not all, brake pads sold in the US are required to meet certain minimum safety and performance criteria that meet or exceed OEM standards. Period. A non-OEM brake pads set has to be really really bad to make the RL or any other car "unsafe" and it will be due to really long stopping distances, not because some sensor is 'confused'.

This is the same as saying that putting non-OEM tires on the RL will make the car electronics go crazy. Every tire will introduce different stopping, handling, and performance characteristics. Nowhere in the user manual, Acura requires drivers to stick to the OEM Michelin tires. Why? The car is smart enough to account for these changes, just like it can adjust to wet roads, snow, ice, dry or gravel.

The OEM tires on the RL are pretty mediocre for their price, people upgrade them most of the time with different brand/model tires and everyone who has done it, never goes back to OEM tires.
Same goes for the brake pads. The OEM Honda/Acura brake pads are nothing spectacular. I've tried 2 different non-OEM sets of pads and both of them have greatly improved the braking performance of my RL. I feel safer and the car stops faster!
~just my 2 cents...

Thank you, Dan.

Let me make absolutely clear that I don't profess to know anything about this subject myself. In fact, I've already had a local mechanic tell me exactly the same thing about the brake pads as you're saying now, and he flat-out told me I was wasting my money by paying extra for OEM's. I'm simply relaying the opinion of one individual, who does not work for Honda or Acura and who has displayed what I personally considered to be exceptional expertise in the past.

I had enough confidence in his advice that I followed it with my car and my money. Nobody else is obligated to either do the same or to agree with me. It's discussions like this that make for a lively board. I'm not a bit bothered that not everyone agrees. Best to you and your RL.
