A video present for my RL brethren...WOT with mods

Link to Neuronbob trying to pull off a sub-7 second run on an empty on ramp early on Memorial Day.

NOTE: for the full effect, plug in your earphones.

I had to work for part of the holiday yesterday and I had my camera with me, so I figured....why not? I'm sure my run would have been better had I not been holding a camera and had the car been in manual mode instead of automatic mode. With the shift from first to second, you can hear the air rushing into the engine from the intake.

In case you haven't read my long sig, I have an AEM intake and 5zigen Fireball Mega exhaust.

Standard disclaimer: I do not in any way condone racing or speeding on public roadways. When I did this, I was the only car on a very straight onramp, leading onto an equally empty freeway with no cops. No squirrels were squashed during the filming of this video. This video should be taken in the spirit of fun that was intended.

Very nice Bob - I like the tone of your exhaust. You have helped me decide what to do with my 'play dough'.

Sweet!

Was this onramp a straightaway or curved? It would have been nice to see the SHAWD display on the MID while you made the re-entry burn.

And thank you for the PC street racing disclaimer. Enthusiasm unabashed when consideration is in account.

Yep because there are all those times where you need to do WOT 0-60 runs in everyday driving so you need 5 second times.

When you grow up you'll understand. When I was your age I was all into that stuff as well wanting super quick acceleration but now I fully understand a car like the RL is PLENTY for regular driving.

I have nothing against super quick cars as my dream car is the F430 or an Aston Martin Vanquish or Vantage. However, I fully understand all that power is really not essential to my daily commute and would be akin to having 9" of wang when less can do the job just fine.

yup, i agree, the RL is great for a daily drive and commuting. don't take one sentence you see on a forum and assume immaturity. the reason for my comment is that someone posting a video saying "sub 7 second w/ mods" gives off the impression he is trying to go for speed. i don't understand why these guys are modding their RLs and putting them on dynos. they are commuter and family cars, not performance.

I agree. Hopefully Acura will, too.

Rob L, c'mon, man, am I not allowed to have a little fun with my daily driver? I don't actually care how big my wang is or how fast my car is...but a little curiousity doesn't hurt....besides, life is short and if you can't have a little fun occasionally (I work 10-12 hour days, so I know I sure need some), why bother? Remember the last sentence in my post above...."spirit of fun"....

Tampa, The onramp was a straight 1/4 mile thing of beauty ending on about another 3/4 mile of straight freeway. It was so empty early on Memorial Day that I just said "what the hell" and gunned it.

btw - i think it's all about what you can afford. sure there is the crowd that will say it isn't practical, but if you can afford to purchase and maintain a v8 or more, why not? i see plenty of v8 and v12 sedans everyday in my area, standard mercedes and bmw, and their mostly middle aged or older, with the occasionally female. do they need to grow up too? again, if you can afford it, why not?

Hey Rob, I forgot to mention...

Remember, I installed the parts and dynoed my car because I got tired of people saying "my car feels faster" and "I can feel the power" after installing these mods. This actually started out as an experiment to see how much power was actually added and I was originally planning on going back to stock. I eventually decided that having the parts on was fun enough that they're staying for the forseeable future.

So let me have my fun. I hope I NEVER grow out of that.

In Rob L's defense, I think he was kinda scolding CleanCL instead of you, Bob.

But anyway, good video. It looked like the first shift went down at 5,000rpm or a little less, whereas the others went closer to redline. Did you lift a little or does it just do that for the 1-2 shift? I guess I've never noticed on those few occasions where I've done WOT's in my RL.

Sure you can, see the private classifieds. As for Touge, we won't go into the specifics... some miscommunication earlier but he is now official, that's the bottom line.

End of discussion.

Yes, as no other vendors on our site offer quite the same items he does. This is why he was invited to be a vendor. There were some behind the scenes stuff going on, as synth19 said. No reason for you to worry!

OK, can we stop hijacking the thread already?

I know, but I just wanted to explain clearly why I did what I did. I'm hoping I didn't come across as scolding.

Nope, I kept mashing the go-pedal, though I certainly could have lifted a little right before the shift without knowing.
