valve cover attachment points for coil packs are broken?
So i just did plugs and front diff fluid on my new (to me) 08 RL with 38k on it now.
All of the little rings that attach to the coil packs on the valve covers front and back look like they have been cut or have cracked open. The coil packs fit fine but I'm not sure about the effects of winter if they aren't sealed perfectly.
The car runs great and I have no issues with any performance or operation but how could almost all of the valve covers have damage in these spots?. The coil pack is literally plastic held on by a 10mm so this damage looks like its on purpose.
Any ideas? I will post a picture later.afetr work.
Should I just replace the valve covers in case the break continues and gets closer to the top of the cover?

4 out of 6 are like this on front and back of engine. I have never seen anything like it.

looks like a previous owner tried to pry the coil pack off and broke the valve cover in the process. It shouldn't be a problem but if you want to replace, you'd have to replace the entire valve cover

Some sort of chemical/electrical corrosion/electrolysis would be my guess. Not a common problem, but also not that uncommon. There was a thread less than a year ago on here about that very same issue. I have same situation, only worse,, on three of my coil-pact mounts. I'll bet an old Acura/Honda tech would know the cause.

at some point after many cycles of heating and cooling wont these cracks grow?
I'm thinking of buying new valve cover gaskets and just replacing them preemptive to any more degredation

This is a common problem with Honda magnesium valve covers. Seal space can be repaired with a cutter and RTV, and the gap can be leveled and filled with dielectric grease so that water does not enter to the tubes.
If you do not have the opportunity to repair, then replace the valve cover
