Value of 2006 RL

Mine has 130k miles, but runs like new, and has never had any major problems. It burns some oil now, but I am told that is normal for a car of this mileage. The only notable flaws are that the plastic lower bumper is cracked, and the drivers seat has come unthreaded. Would this make it "poor" condition?

I planned on keeping it for another 100k miles, so I bled/replaced the brake fluid, gear, differential and transmission fluid, replaced the brakes, and tires, and added a new battery all recently, which is probably more than any dealer would do prior to resale.

Anyways, I got an urgent need for a truck so I unfortunately have to immediately sell my RL after all that work, ugh. I know I'm going to lose money on it now, but the trade in value shocked me. One dealer only offered me $4000!!! What an insult for this car.

So my question is what others have experienced when selling their RL's. Is it a losing proposition no matter what? One would think a $55k RL with every amentity would be worth more than a $20k Accord after 100k miles.

I can tell you RL's are very slow sellers by what Ive seen in the market that ive been shopping in in VA.

Now your factoring in a car thats 10years old and over 100k miles dealers wont keep them on their lots if it was to be a retail car they likely would give you more but I expect that dealer, if its a brand dealer, would likely wholesale it therefore your trade in is lower.

I do think they are low on their offer though I'd expect it between $4800 - 7000 but again it depends on what your looking to trade it in on etc there are a lot of variables that determine value

I don't think the oil burning is normal to this engine at that age.

That said, you don't get what the car is worth in a trade-in situation.

And, Sid, how did you put so few miles on your car?

IndyTodd,
My 06 has 163k miles on and has no issue at all.
Recently, my car was hit hard with hail & some moron decide to take right turn from left lane to damage my left front.
Both estimate combined came up to $7500 and insurance asked me if I wanted car totaled as if they tweaked number little, it's well with-in reach.
I told them no as I will not find another vehicle as mine in same condition for the money.

As for your car, try listing it on CL or cars.com/autotrader as private sale.
Dealer will always low ball you.
When I was in for service week ago, dealer asked if I was interested in 2016 RLX SH-AWD and I said that depends on the OTD price of car as well as my car's trade-in value.
They said they will give me $7k for my car and I just walked away.

Hell, if you are going to sell for $4000, depends on location I'll buy it from you.

I took it to a few places today, and the most they offered was $5500. No way. I'm not taking a penny less than 7 for it. Two of the places told me that they knocked 1200 off their offer because the front lower bumper is cracked, and they'd need to "replace and paint the whole bumper". I tried to explain that on an 06 the lower part is a separate $400 part and even comes pre-painted, but none believed me (it's called the "front lower spoiler"). Basically, I don't think they get enough of these cars through their lots to understand the parts.

So I guess I need to replace the silly plastic bumper myself because everyone thinks it is a major issue. I think that a $400 body repair on a ten year old car is about as minor as you can get!

Have you tried carmax? I think the value of the car drops alot after the 100k mile range.

Trade in value does not equal market value. If it did, dealers wouldn't make money off of trade ins. If you want market value, you have sell the car yourself. Look at KBB, price it at "very good condition"and expect to sell it for the value of "poor" condition (a.k.a. account for negotiation). It will take some work to get that extra over trade in. A trade is essentially paying to not have to do that work.

I paid $8700 CAD (or $6690 USD) for my 06 with 160,000km (roughly 100,000 miles)

I have always liked these cars, so I felt like it was a decent deal. Hopefully it was a good buy. Certainly I could have paid less, but these are hard to find in my area.

That sounds like a good deal for sure, but it depends on whether the car had its 100k mile maintenance. If not, your going to need to pay $1500US for that. It also depends on the condition of the tires (also about $1200US to replace) and interior, which can be quite worn on some cars by 100k miles.

That's not bad at all depending on the condition of course & how well it was maintained. I paid 9k for my Aspec with 200,000 KM but the timing belt service was just done before I bought it which was the deal breaker.

See if you can find the service history on it but be prepared for when things start to go. So far I've replaced:

Front lower control arms
Tires
Inner/outer tie rods
Wheel bearings
Alternator
Shocks (fronts were blown & got a set of coilovers)

Control arms were the biggest hit since I got them from Acura but well worth it IMO. Still need engine mounts too

Since it has 160,000 on it, I had the timing belt inspected by a Honda/acura specialist shop. Everything was original. I was prepared for that when I bought it. The bill for the water pump, timing belt, tensioner, trans fluid, diff fluids is already $1000. Looks like my car was not serviced well. Seems like the original owner got rid of it before he had to spend on it.
