used RL or g37?

My cousin is debating whether to buy a 07 RL or 09 g37 sedan or coupe. He's in ATL and its hard to find a used RL. They usually have high mileage. Are there any problems with the 07 RL? How long can they last? Whats the pro and con if he was to get a RL vs G37? Whats an ideal price of a used RL right now?

There is nothing wrong with the 2007 MY RL.

A well maintained RL can last well over 300k miles.

RLs are Luxury cruisers first and sport sedans second. A G37 is all sport sedan. The ride is stiffer in a G and softer in an RL. However, the RL can handle as well as the G b/c of SH-AWD. The G is a little quicker. The G has a more sporty exhaust note. The RL is bigger and has more interior space. The features of both cars are pretty similar, but the RL will have a few more tech gizmos.

Look at KBB for a used private party 2007 RL in good condition. That is usually a good starting point for a price. My guess is $20-22k for an '07 w/ less than 70k miles.

The G is my favorite of the Infinity vehicles, both the coupe and sedan. But they are intended to be more sport, and less luxury, somewhat opposite of the RL's formula. Be sure which has priority for you. And we all have personal tastes, but be sure you like the raspy exhaust note of Infinities. It is much more pronounced than comparable vehicles, not just on acceleration. I have heard more than one Infinity owner gripe that they grew weary of the constant exhaust tone.

Funny, i just went through this same decision... It really depends on what your budget is... I was looking to stay around the mid 30's and ended up with 2012 M37S with 17K miles. It was listed at 41K and i got the dealer to come down to 38.5. Also had a trade in, wifes 07 Camry which i got 7K for from carmax, dealer offered me 5.5K).

If your going the used route, you'll be surprised what you find. Cars you thought that were way out of reach may actually be attainable! Its just a matter of taking the time to look. If your in a time crunch this may not be an option. I've been searching for a few months and finally found something that worked for me!

But if your dead set on the G and RL, i'd go with the RL.

I drove the G37xs as well as the M35X back when I was considering different cars. The G37 was nice and responsive, but it was uber stiff, and I never liked the finishing. The M35x was slow and I HATED the interior design with a passion. That's my opinion

The carfax seems alright. I actually went to an Acura Dealer today and this is what they found (the link above). They said they'll get it certified which will add additional $2g which will bring the price to $20 g. The car has 56k miles. Is acura ceritification necessary?

I would just spend the money on an extended warranty and have it inspected by your trusted mechanic. Preferably someone who has experience dealing with cars like this.

That car has some major interior wear, especially for the mileage and age. Also, it is WAY under priced. I would stay away.

There are no major or minor issues that are to be expected on a 2007+ MY RL.

A certification will simply add 1 year/12k mi bumper to bumper warranty and extend the powertrain to 7 years/100k miles. I think there could be a reasonable debate between adding this or just getting a third party warranty.

Based on previous reports on this board, I'd much prefer the AcuraCare warranty over a third party. (In fact, I not only would, I did.) Not because the former is so good, but because most of the latter are so bad – usually riddled with deductibles and exclusions.

I paid $1,000 for my warranty, and I thought it was a reasonable price. Shop carefully and you'll minimize problems, but this is a luxury car with low-volume tech features everywhere, and parts can get pricey.

this is the EXACT two cars I was debating before buying the RL less than a year ago, and I do not regret my decisions at all.

I hated the 09 G37 transmission jerkiness, so I was looking at the 08 G35x instead.

The RL is leagues above in luxury and I just love the RL ride a lot more. I would have loved the quickness of the G35, but the RL is enough for me (just hit the gas a bit more)

It's definitely a personal preference of which to go with. An RL is something very special of a car. Let your cousin test drive both and see which he likes more.

Definitely two different classes of car. Both need to be driven.
