Underhanded Compliment

I keep my car ('06) clean. Really clean.

Yesterday, someone looked at it and said "New car, huh?" While it may have been meant to make me feel good, he said it just after he rear ended me on the NJ Turnpike (I was with my 17 year-old son (glad he wasn't driving)...no injuries). I saw him coming and tried to get out of the way. I had enough room to the right...but not enough time. He hit the left side of my rear bumper pretty hard (driving a Ford F150). The bumper is pushed in but I can't see any other damage (who know's whats broked or bent under the cover). Heading to the body shop in a couple of hours. I'll post some picture later if I get a chance.

The other driver was good about it...very apologetic but it still sucks. As we were on the side of the highway, traffic stopped about 50 feet past us and a car (who's driver I figured was looking at us on the side), didn't stop and slammed into a stopped car. Pushed it forward, 4 cars involved in that one with injuries. Not life threatening but and ambulance did come...eventually.

Sucks.

Driving has become more of a defensive endeavor as people become more distracted when behind the wheel. I constantly see people talking or texting on the phone, or having a conversation with a passenger while continually taking their eyes off the road. All the new gadgetry on the new cars doesn't help the cause either. My horn gets plenty of usage as I give "wake up" calls to all of the offenders as they drift into my lane. You can tell they are daydreaming, 'cause the horn usually scares the sh^t out of them.

Sorry to hear about you're RL, but good that no injuries resulted.

Sorry to hear about your precious. At least there were no injuries in your incident. Having been involved in a rear-ender recently myself (recipient), I understand the annoyance.

BTW, I like your avatar, LL.

Pix below. As I said, not a whole lot of damage but the estimate still came to $1,245.55...bumper cover, trip piece, spacers, paint plus anything else they find once they take it apart.

Glad you are all OK. That damage is very fixable, and thankfully not at your expense, just time and aggrevation.

It will be good as new.

Yes, it sucks. At least the driver who hit you acted responsibly...that is SO RARE anymore. And THAT sucks.

It seems the driving public has lost sight that as a driver you have responsiblity to other dirvers on the road and how they read /anticpate your driving.

Don't get me started on the epidemic of pedestial hit and runs all over the news.

man that stinks. i actually literally WON'T drive during rush hours because of the increasing stupidity of people on the road these days. sometimes i think it's because of the recession we're in and people are driving really pissed off.. so i try and just drive before or after rush hours ha.

stinks to see an RL dinged up like that... get that F-150 driver, get him!

I feel your pain. I got rear ended couple weeks ago by a guy who happened to be my Uncle's friend. He came to me like "oh geez i looked away to find my phone and didnt expect you to stop." Ugh! I was pretty pissed. Either way he is going to have to get it fixed. He was driving an 01 TL and scratched the hell out my Black RL. I can't wait to get it fixed.

just be glad it was minor. given what I do, I see a LOT of VERY bad traffic collisions. many many people who get involved in a crash are NOT so lucky and wind up severely injured or dead. if the average person had ANY idea as to the volume of DUI drivers on the raod at ANY given moment - they would NEVER drive anything not 5 star safety rated.

every time I see someone in a "Smart" those little micro cars - I think they are "not too smart"...as the first DUI driver in his F150 who hits them will obliterate them. I'll take a "gas guzzling" RL, or some other SAFE car anyday over htose little deathtraps.

drive safe.
