Underdash noise at start and stop

Hi AcuraZine members,

I just returned from a trip through Md, WV, and Pa. I was supprised by the number of 2nd gen RL's I saw. Must be th SH-AWD. Anyway, I have a strange clicking sound under the dash that occurs when moving first forward and then again when I come to a stop. At first I thought it sounded like some linkage that was moving, but after listing to it at a rest stop during my trip, it sounds like some switch. Also while the car is in park and I touch the break pedal I can repeat the sound. If I put the car in gear and touch the brake the sound doesn't occur but occurs when the car start moving forward. It doesn't continue while the car is being driven. Only when starting and stopping and when the car is in park and the brake pedal is touch. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you are describing the shifter lock solenoid. It engages shortly after vehicle starts rolling and again when the vehicle stops. To me it sounds like a small marble shifting in the center console near the shifter when you start and stop the car.

It is not defective, except for the sound. Mine was replaced under warranty a few years ago and the replacement has developed the same sound. It has been mentioned elsewhere in the forum over the years if you wish to search for other descriptions.

Thank you. I'll look at the other posts.
