tsb for rear window shade rattle

I have escalated my issue to the manufacturer regarding the rear sunshade rattle. No matter what they did, they couldn't seem to fix my shade's rattle.

They say they are working on a fix for the issue, so we'll see. I spoke with a guy at Acura corporate in LA, and he says the engineers are working on resolving it and they will contact me when they figure it out..

I've been back to the dealer twice myself for this one. Someone else had reported here that a felt liner in the tray solved their problem...

This is disconcerting for the 07 model, considering I have the same issue with my 05. I would have thought that issues with 05's would be resolved in later models. The dealer did mention that it would take ~2hrs to fix and that a felt liner was involved. I haven't brought it back in yet for the fix, I have had the car in a lot for various fixes and this one doesn't bother me as much as the others, I just keep the XM turned up and I can't hear it. Good luck.

My last visit for this problem resulted in a 'felt liner' - did not work.

the dealer told me..

They told me that they test drove 3 other cars and they were all the same, so I was like Great... they tried to tell me it was as designed, and I said I don't accept a rattle as an "as designed" feature.. Furthermore, I was stoked because since they found it on all of their other cars, they didn't have to use my car as the guinnea pig to fix it. I had my motor changed a couple of times, the shade changed, felt, etc.... I think it is better to wait for them to really fix the issue via a tsb, then they can have a fix that works. I will update once I get confirmation. If I don't hear from them in a month, I will call them back.. and give an update.. I am on top of this one...

Another poster has stated his noise was caused by the parcel shelf between the shade and rear window. Maybe foam plugs or spray foam between shelf and supports will fix this.

yes I met with Acura Parts District Manager

I took a ride with the dealer and the west coast district manager of service and parts. They are going to take the car in again, a 5th time, to try and fix it again. There isn't any TSB yet. I will keep you updated. They are trying to fix it, so that is cool. I just want it fixed. I did file a bbb complaint, hence the meeting with Acura, but they aren't going to buy back the car for this issue. If you read the law it says it must reduce the value of the vehicle or be an issue which can cause injury or death... I would be happy with foam plugs, foam anything or anything...

There are a lot of other cars like BMW's, Lexus, & Mercedes with these shades. My problem is I like the shade up. If it was down all of the time it wouldn't be an issue.

My 08 had the same rattle. They took it apart and put something in there and it is now much more quieter. The rattle is due to a design flaw in the piece covering the sunshade. The piece is very flexible and is mounted in a flimsy manner.

I too prefer my shade up to reduce sun during the day and headlight glare at night. If it didn't go down everytime I put it in reverse that would save a lot of wear and tear. Secondly the shade should auto up after you put the car in D. This could be software selectable via the MID if you did not want that feature as the default.
My shade does not push the top rollers against the rear window and therefore it flaps in mid air. The dealer has addressed this issue on at least 4 occassions and the problem returns even after the unit was swapped out. They say they "adjust" it. I'm not sure that there is anything to adjust but the fix is always temporary. Does anybody elses shade not touch the window at the top? Is it just off the glass so it hits the glass over every bump in the road?

well I finally went in again after meeting with Acura. They told me they made it so the rollers wouldn't roll on the shade. The small wheels that press against the wheel apparently rattle when they move. Anyway, I don't know how they stopped them from rolling, but they told me the tightened them up so they won't constantly turn. It seems like this has fixed most of the rattle, for at least the last week... I hope this helps. I met with the manager or acura parts and service, west, and he apparently made the recommendation to the servicing dealer..

I just bought an 06 and I'm pretty sure I have this rattle. Is there any update? If I take it to the dealer will they do anything about it?

My '06 floats the wheels in the air, until right at the top. As the screen reaches full extension, the soft wheels are pressed against the glass and I have no rattle. Is this the "as designed" or did my dealer fix it before I bought the rustbucke...er, wundercar?

Mine does the same. Although my dealer did felt line the shade cradle when my RL was new, my shade is silent except on all but the roughest roads. That causes the shade to bounce enough the wheels tap lightly on the rear glass. But I only drive with the shade up when mom (Miss Daisy) is in the back seat.

My RL is 3+ years old and I am surprised how little interior sounds it makes. Maybe it is just after having a 3rd Gen TL which the interior sounded like it was disintegrating.
