Talking TSB # 05-022 for XM delay (and other stuff) released today

Yeah!! I just received a call from an Acura Customer Care CSR named Samantha, with whom I had been communicating since the XM delay first appeared last April.

She told me Acura just released TSB # 05-022 today (9/14/2005) that covers repairs for the specific XM screen refresh delay issue PLUS the battery drain when using the control button on the driver's door to open the trunk, and problems with local live traffic updates.

The TSB instructs the dealer to replace the entire Acura Link module unit to effect these repairs. Not sure whether a given dealer will yet have the replacement units, but some may have it shipped based on vehicle ID with known problems covered by the TSB.

XM fix

I got it done today. It was a surprise as I had an appoinment for an A service. I mentioned that I had the problem and they said they got the TSB in and could fix.

It works, title/artist update instantly. Make sure the Dealer refreshes your service though. When I picked up the car and turned on XM, it asked me to call and activate service. I went back. Dealer can do it online.

You lose all your pre-sets.

I might just wait...

...about a month or so for you guys to report if the replacement unit comes with other bugs in need of their own fixes...

Can someone please let me know if ALL RLs are experiencing this issue or just some? I am picking up mine this Saturday and want to give the dealer heads up to fix it, if needed.

Good question......
Does anyone have the VIN cutoff for vehicles needing this upgrade?

xm and traffic flow

As I reported yesterday, I got the XM delay fixed, but the dealer forgot to refresh my XM account. They refreshed, but now today I have no Traffic flow in Nav. I think they may have deleted that part of my subscription in XM.

1 step forward, 1 step back!

hopefully - yes
although after reading the TSB (thanks dtrose for the post), I'm trying to figure out how my dealer had the AcuraLink part yesterday when they were not being shipped out until week of 9/12

xm update

strange Tommy - mine is virtually instantaneous

an update to traffic flow - was not a subscription problem, just reliability
I drove 5 different trips today - traffic flow worked once

I would trade back XM delay for a reliable and accurate traffic flow

not Trafic Flow

I am not talking about trafic flow updates.. I am talking about the XM Radio info that is updated with every new song.. i.e artist, title etc.. Its still damn slow..

xm and traffic

yes - I understood the artist/title update. I was referring to that as well.
I got the TSB done and my XM artist/title update instantaneously.

However, my traffic flow has been very unreliable and I was hoping the XM fix would also solve the traffic issue since they replaced the whole receiving unit and traffic is received from XM.

Are you guys sure the dealership did the acutal update? As was stated in the TSB the replacement units were only shipped two days ago. Be sure your dealership did not use another older, still defective receiver. My receiver has been replaced twice before with allegedly new units. Never hurts to be sure.

XM update

The saga continues. As I said, I had the update done and all seemed fixed regarding XM. Then a day later, XM quite altogether and went into preview mode. Called Dealer. After investigating my XM account, they claim it was never changed from "Demo" to my own Subscription when I bought the car (which was from a different Dealer). I've had the car 6 months. They also claim it has been corrected. The good news is that I have a year free subscription starting from today - so I get an extra 6 months. However, I'm a bit skeptical. I'll see if it works on my way home today.

I had to go back too my dealer today due to an oil change. When i asked about the update, since I had my control unit recently swapped out, the said that Acura requires a certain laptop and control unit for the update. They said they would call me in a week or as soon as the get the laptop in.

I do know this, there was a bulletin out recently that also replaces the XM unit. but it seems this recent one takes precedence. I fyou had your XM Control unit exchanged in the past week, prior to the update, then you still need to have it swapped out again.

my experience

I had mine done this AM. As others reported, I had to call XM and get the radio re-registered.. then I noticed that traffic did not work either.

Dealer tried to get it done, but there were problems with the XM computer.. so I
made the call myself.

The text delay is gone... updates are real time... so I do not see any downside to this radio swap (except for 2 calls to XM) but they handled it quickly and professionally.

The TSB seems to stop at 18,000+. However, I have a vehicle at over 19,000 and also have XM delay. Is there a fix for me?

Call your dealer. If you have the same symptoms, they will likely perform the fix. My VIN is 20XXX and they told me no problem. Get's done this Saturday morning.

Would we typically expect to hear something from our dealer about this, or is it just left up to the consumer to reach out to the dealer? In the two months I've had the car, the dealer denied the problem and I haven't heard anything from them. Just curious.

American Honda will send notices in the mail regarding the TSB.

Are your sure? Typically the only mail notice is a recall. Most TSBs are for "as required" (customer complaint) type service. In other words if you don't complain there is nothing to fix!

According to the PDF of the TSB it says

"CLIENT NOTIFICATION
All owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification
of this product update. The client notification may also
include information on other product updates. There is
a client notification example at the end of this service
bulletin.
Not all vehicles within the affected VIN range are
affected by this product update. Before starting work on
a vehicle, make sure it is eligible by checking for one or
more of these items:
• The client has a notification letter.
• The vehicle is noted as eligible when you"

Dropped mine off yesterday for the XM delay. Got a call from dealer about the 2 other TSB's (battery & brakes (?)) on the car their gonna fix. So they kept overnight & gave me a TSX loaner.

Will let you know how it turns out

Are you saying that you had to take your RL in three times before they replaced it with a good unit?

I had the update done yesterday, and still have the XM delay issue.

For those of you having problems with the updates still, why not print out the TSB that was posted earlier in the thread (the PDF file) and show it to your dealer. Ask them if that is what they performed, if not, to perform that TSB - if they did tell them the XM still doesn't work and to go back to Acura tech.

Got my AcuraLink unit replaced today!

And everything seems to be running as smoothly as it had been pre-April Update (the one that started the XM refresh delay problems). I had all pertinent TSB's done, including the XM delay, battery drain, Navi real time traffic problems, and OnStar minute disappearing act.

My XM refreshes instantly and the tuning presets all appear correctly when the unit powers-on.

I don't know about the other 3 issues since I hadn't checked my OnStar minutes recently and had not experienced the battery drain or real-time traffic problems. I just hope the fix doesn't lead to any new problems .
