Transmission service ??
Transmission service ??
I hope i'm not being redundant but, I want to keep my rl up to the correct maintance standards and I have received conflicting information. I have never had the 3 code (transmission and transfer case fluid drain and replacement) appear on my maintance minder and am at about 55000 miles.
I went in for the master cylinder recall and the service writer insisted I have the transmission and dif. fluid service done. I told him the Minder never gave me a code. He said there was no code for the service, later I found one in the book. Then I asked the price he said about $190.00 for both, so I asked if they do the 3x fill and flush he said no just 1. I think they are trying to help their bottom line on me. Does my trans and differencial need service or do I wait for the proper code?
Thanks for all your help.

ive had the light come on in the car at 9K miles and 38K miles for trans fluid. I now do a 3x3 flush every 20k just to protect the trans its a good idea to keep the trans happy. just a drain and fill will not get all the old fluid out.
Does our manual call for drain-and-fills, or for flushes?
I'm really leery of tranny flushes. I've heard of service places who didn't completely clean out the last car's fluid, injected tiny bits of solids into the next guy's car, and destroyed an intact tranny within weeks of the flush.

I think you mis read what i said. I do not do the tradition machine flush i do the 3x3 method of flush. Fill and drain 3 times to get the most if not all the of old fluid out.
I found the section in the RL manuel dealing with the transmission and Acura states to do the 3x drain and fill plus 1 final drain and fill at 60,000 if the car is driven in difficult conditions. My dealer wanted to only do 1 drain and fill, at 55,000 im still not at that point. The service writer also wanted me to service the rear differential, I looked back at my records and I had done that at 40,000 miles. The dealer was trying to make some extra money. I think I will just rely on the maintance minder on the car.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Honda transmissions should not be flushed or physically drained (sucked out). Only flushing by draining/refilling/draining should be done. Also, make sure they use Honda oil. I have a buddy who had his Honda trany flushed and refilled with non-Honda oil last fall at a traditional lube shop. Don't know which one caused it, but last week the entire trany crapped out and left the car stuck in the turn lane at a stop light. $4k replacement or $2k+ rebuild. Be weary of people who don't work on A LOT of Hondas. I believe our cars are special and not just because I have always owned one but because of things like this.
Sorry this didn't answer your question b/c my car had it done before I bought it (certified pre-owned), but I wanted to put the warning out there.
