Transmission Replaced

My 05 has just under 200k miles and i think the transmission may be going out. Anyone have a ballpark on what it would cost?

I'm guessing $2500 to $3000. What is your tranny doing?

I had been doing a little correspondence with stevesrl, he has a thread on here about the 3x3 transmission fluid change. He also sent me a message about amazing difference in changing the 3 pressure sensors...it may be worth checking into.

I am assuming you do regular fluid changes? If not, that may be the first thing to try...and as you will note, a simple drain and fill will not do it...and stay away from shops that do the "transmission flush" which causes more harm than good, especially with Honda trannies which really need Honda fluid, and not some generic.

Steve's message below

"If you really want to be amazed with your transmission, change the 3 pressure sensors. See service manual it is easy (except for one that is hard to get to). After I changed my 3 pressure sensors, I was amazed with how smooth the shifts were. I could hardly tell when they happened. Their is a detailed thread by "Hate Cars" in the 3rd generation TL forum. Search under "transmission" and you will find it. It really does make a difference. Note: I had 90K miles on my RL when I did it. It is recommended to change them every 50K miles by transmission professionals."

Thanks for the quick responses.

The engine is making a whining noise when I accelerate and the shifting has a little jerk to it. I had the transmission service done at about 170k miles and have honestly noticed a difference since then. I have all the maintenance done pretty religiously.

Was 170K the first time that you had the fluid changed? If so, you probably did more damage than good.

I have had it changed one other time. I believe it was around 90k.

This has been the only real mechanical issue I have had. I have had the typical 05 issues but nothing major.

Neglect may have hurt you. Tranny fluid change at 60K then every 30K.
