AT / Tr.Case / Rear Diff - oil changes (+ battery)

Visited Honda dealer today to complete transmission, transfer case and rear diff. service (oil change) and after completing these everything came out to be $235 (with tax) - this is Northern IL suburbs.
Wanted to ask about something else though - they tested the battery and it failed their test - I guess voltage is below what it should be. They said car would not start as soon as I parked it (I guess I was lucky not to have that problem before) - anyhow, battery is bad. Asked $120 for replacing it.

Scheduled in couple of days to go and replace it: come to find out that actual battery I have in my car is Acura battery which clearly says 100-month warranty. Having in mind my RL is 2006, is it pretty safe to say that Acura dealer will replace this battery free of charge?

Thanks!

It's not free replacement foe entire 100 months, first three years is free, thereafter prorated. If that's your original, you won't get much for it. That's a pretty long time for an Acura battery if it is your first.

Sounds like a decent price. I'm from that area. I'm figuring you were either at Muller, Arlington or Libertyville -- one of those? I've had the impression the first of those is the best, and the second is not.

Just like rlerman said. Pro-rated after the 36-month mark. There was a recent thread about this; in fact, I just recently had my own battery replaced (didn't wait until it failed, so I didn't get anything for it).

Nothing is free at the dealer. The 100 month warranty is a gimmick that they always dodge.

It's not a gimmick. If it fails in three years its replaced. They will test it in front if you. If it fails thereafter, it's pro rated. 100 month warranty is basically $1/month so if it fails in month 70 or 80, assuming you paid $100 like i did, you get $20-30 off a new one.

There are a number of threads on the battery warranty, and the majority of people have been denied any compensation.

In any case, $120 isn't a terrible deal for this car.

Thanks everyone for replying. I checked the battery and there was no indication of whether it was stock or if it was replaced. Most of the research turned out to state if second owner dealer is most likely not to do anything; since I could not wait I went to AutoZone and god Duralast Gold 24-DLG. Got back, tried to install it - FAIL. DLG one has raised pieces that cover battery tanks with liquid and I could not get positive terminal installed correctly - returned it to AutoZone and got Bosch 24-700B since it was flat on the top and installation was a breeze. Everything worked fine - started car just fine, and had to apply fix for grayed-out Address Book and "Go Home" option under Navi.

I was disappointed by Duralast 24-DLG and not being able to install it but I guess as long as it works

I went to Rosen Honda in Gurnee, IL

BTW Tested alternator and the guys said it was between 13.87 and 14.2V. When I looked at it while car engine was running (idle) it showed 13.87V
