Tomorrow I Become Official
Tomorrow I Become Official
So after hanging out here on AcuraZine for months, I am finally about to become a full-fledged, card carrying, Acura owner. Tomorrow, fellow RL lovers, I will finally satisfy my long-standing desire to own my very own Acura RL.
But alas, all is not perfect. Unfortunately, my dream car is laden with those gaudy @ss faux golden emblems. Why anyone would want to mix chrome, black, and gold on the same vehicle is beyond my understanding. So, it goes without saying that I will be debadging the car, at least until I can find some chrome/silver emblems to replace the ones King Midas put on. Does anyone know where I might score some reasonably priced replacement badges??
I know that Findlay Acura has been mentioned as a good place to pick up reasonably priced accessories, but if there are other dealerships or outlets that might provide deals on accessories, I'd certainly like to know.
The plan is to add the rear deck lid, wood-look wheel, tint, wood shift knob, and possibly the a-spec suspension. The vehicle is an 06 NBP w/o PAX/CMBS that has 37,633 miles. I'm paying more than I'd like to @ $24,250 but since that's the "out-the-door" price, I don't quite feel like I'm getting raped, just violently fondled against my will. Thanks for all the help everyone has given me. Special thanks to BigKat!!! Pictures are forthcoming!!

Congrats! I see you finally found one.
Gold badges are minor and an easy fix to replace.
If the car is in the condition you seek, I think that is a fair price.
Is it CPO? Get your checklist ready.

Unfortunately, it is not CPO, it's came off lease & is hanging out at the Honda dealership. And what items should I have on my checklist? They've already assured me that they have both keys. The dealership was very stingy and unwilling to provide me with any extras. When I go there tomorrow, I'll be sure to wear my convincing hat in hopes that I might get SOME extras.
Hmmmm, is there a place where I can find all the TSBs??

Welcome to the fam! You have purchased one of the biggest secrets in all of modern motoring. Ignore my avatar, I'm still a big RL lover.
Not too many TSBs on the 2006, luckily, just the power steering line comes to mind. Just take it to your friendly neighborhood Acura dealer for a first servicing and they'll be able to tell you if your new precious has had the TSB done.

well folks, it looks like it's back to the drawing board. the dealer didn't have the title to the vehicle yet, so my bank would not release the funds for purchase. for now, I'm still in my old truck. maybe one day I'll graduate to the upper echelons of car ownership. one day.
actually, it's great to be me. but i do have to admit that i was pretty bummed. oh well, perhaps something better will come my way. we will just have to see. and you are ABSOLUTELY right princelybug, i should have waited until THE day. the silver lining is that i learned quite a bit. the car is listed @ 30K and i felt like i scored a victory in getting them down to $24 and the experience has been a little heartbreaking but still priceless. nevertheless, i will march on!! i'll let you guys know when i finally close the deal. i'm keeping my head up!!!
Darn! I thought it was time to CELEBRATE!!! Time to cork up the malt liquor bottle.
No worries though! I’m sure another immaculate RL will probably be at the Acura lot soon, due to lease return or a midlife crisis trade-in for a sportier CTS-V?

Hmmmm....mid-life crisis....I wonder what the wife would say if I brought home a cute redhead with green eyes in the V?

Sorry about the car, JuniorRap. It can take up to a few days for the dealer to get the title. No biggus, though I would think it was a bonehead move to try to sell a car sans title. I don't know anything about selling cars, so I have no idea how common that is. Are you still going to get that particular car or are you going to move on to the next?

Junior, one other note about the AcuraCare warranty: it's been noted in other threads that you can probably get the best price on it by buying it online from one of a couple out-of-town dealerships. The more veteran people here can name them; the names escape me right now.
***takes deep breath and sighs a heavy sigh*** so yesterday, i get a call from the car salesman breathlessly telling me that the title has been received and is now in the name of the dealership. i told him to fax the copy of the title to my bank so that they can go ahead and cut the check. i'm pretty excited to know that the deal is almost set to be done. but there are still a few roadblocks.
1. i'm at a very important conference 3 hours away from home until sunday so i can't physically go to purchase the vehicle until monday at the earliest
2. the car that i'm interested in buying is 2 hours away from home so with a round trip of 4 hours, i'll need to take another full day off from work after having taken a full day on wednesday only to find that the dealer did not have the title.
but i'm a pretty optimistic fellow, so i'm figuring that everything is going to work out despite those bumps. so i'm in my hotel room at the conference center checking to see if there are any RLs better equipped and/or cheaper than the one that i've been eyeing. and much to my surprise, there is one!! so now i'm pretty stoked. i call the dealership to inquire about this new RL only to be told that the car was sold two hours before i called. well, there's still the other one with the title to fall back on, right? NOPE. when i called my salesperson back this evening to check the status of that one, guess what he says. YUP. they sold it today too.
i want to keep my head up, but i'm pretty bummed. i've invested plenty of time in trying to get everything in order for this car purchase and like sand through my fingers, everything has quietly slipped away. in addition to that, i'm selling my truck and i've already identified a serious buyer. well the buyer calls me today to tell me that he can no longer pay the price we originally agreed upon. now, he can only afford $1000 less than the price we had negotiated earlier. no, this has not been the best friday.
and i've been beat up pretty bad here at the conference. i work in politics and the personalities have grated upon my nerves all day not to mention the fires i've had to put out due to the incompetence of some of my colleagues.
so i'm definitely going to press on and do my best to stay positive, but it's been a rough road to my RL, my AZ brethren. i'll keep you guys posted. and while it may not be in celebration, i might still crack open a bottle of malt liquor. a 40oz!!!
