Tint or not ???
Do you guys think that Tinting the RL is necessory sonice we have the side sun shades on the back window and the rear sunshades. If tint is added to the car the function of those are no longer needed. So do you guys think a tint is then needed?

Where do you live? Is it always sunny? My RL is tinted to keep the car cool AND because I like how it looks. Plus, you don't have sunshades on the front passenger windows do you? I have 35% all around and I think 20% on the rear. I still use my sunshades because the car can use all the shade it can get during summer in Sacramento.

I tinted my car purely for the looks. And ditto with taitando, you can still use the shades--I have a baby I frequently transpost, so with only 50% tint, the built-in shades still see some use.
If you choose to tint, just make sure the installer doesn't remove your door panels. I'm currently paying the price on my brand-new car for letting the installer do that.

I would never own a future car without tinting the windows. My previous IS300 and now my current RL got tinted and well, it is needed when it is sunny. I fail to see how the rear side shades help when you're driving and the sun is blasting through your door window. Oh and I still use the rear sunshade all the time when it's sunny and I am driving. The appearance of the car also improves with the tint but the reason I get tint is for the functionality not for appearance.
The only negative with tint (I think my car is at 30 all around%) is when driving at night and the darkness can make visibility out the back or side windows a bit tricky but one can manage.

I've got a couple of kids but haven't figured out how to do this yet. Do you use USPS or UPS to get them to soccer games and ballet lessons?

I had mine tinted for the following reasons:
1) Fading... the leather and interior materials will hold up MUCH better over the long haul if you have some UV protection.
2) Keep it cool inside... being the owner of a black on black RL, it feels about 30-50% cooler inside after being parked in the sun in the summer time.
3) Looks - Even my wife who is NOT a car enthusiast... remarked that it looked much 'sportier' once the windows were tinted.
I have 30% Llumar with a lifetime guarantee...and it's been great
Cost in TN... $150 for all windows except the windshielf of course

You have removable shades all round except straight and to the sides.
Sunglasses are easier to remove for night driving than the tint.
I use a sunshade for the windsheild when I park.
A stock RL does not look like a Mafia mobile, a Pimp mobile or a teenagers rice-grinder.
Additional tint is illegal in most states when it is ahead of the drivers shoulders.
BTW - I live in sunny Southern California so no comments about the sun doesn't shine where you live!

That's why we all have choices. I tend to think the car stays cooler with the tinted windows, and while you may like to generalize (mafia mobile comment), I like how my CGP RL looks with the tinted windows, and apparently many agree since I've received numerous compliments.

1. The stock glass rejects some of the UV, but not near enough. Speaking as someone who has had a number of skin cancers removed, it ain't near enough. The sun coming in through the stock (non-tinted) windows immediately burns the skin on my left arm. After tinting, no burn.
2. You are correct - the removable shades are everywhere except where I need them ... directly to the sides. Ergo, I need tint.
3. Can't argue with the sunglasses comment, but my windows aren't tinted enough to be an issue. (And sunglasses are just for eyes, not the other stuff.)
4. There isn't any way I'll use one of those funky window shades. Just me.
5. My RL doesn't look like any of those things you listed.
6. Additonal tint is NOT "illegal in most states". In fact, there are only 5 ststes that don't allow driver's side windows to be tinted. See HERE for state by state tint laws.
I'll admit I didn't use to like tinted windows, and I still don't like those "limo black" tints. But it is so practical and so useful here in sunny Texas that I finally came around and realized the benefit. Now I wouldn't have a car that isn't tinted. I don't do it to look cool, I don't do it to look ricey, and I don't do it to look Mafia. I do it because it protects my skin, my interior, my vision (you'd be surprised how reducing the side glare reduces eye fatigue on long drives), and it keeps my car a lot cooler in the summer.

seriously, i have 30% tint all around, even the sunroof (that might be 20%) and it's imperative if one is driving in sunny locales. when driving west in the morning and east in the evening i'll always use the rear sunshade as well, also when parked in the sun. sunglasses don't keep the interior of the car cool when parked outdoors.

And some people just don't like tint. Even I don't want limo black tint on my RL....though I could deal with 30-35%. If only it were legal on the front two windows in Ohio....

My 2 Acuras were done by Alta Mere in Ft. Worth, but they have locations on your side of the world, too (one on Lemmon Ave. and another one on Plano Pkwy.).
I hear Tint Magic is highly-rated, too, although I have no experience with them.

Now you're not making any sense (not that you did by implying that putting tints on an RL makes the car a "Mafia mobile, a Pimp mobile or a teenagers rice-grinder)." If you're going to dish it out, prepare to take it.

I just had my RL tinted last week. 35% Executive all the way around. I really like the classy look it adds to the car. I bought it solely for looks. Spent the last 10 years down south, but have recently moved to the Seattle area so I could have definitely done without...
