Ticking noise

I have a recently purchased 2006 rL with 82,500 highway miles. As I turn the start knob I hear a ratcheting ticking sound that only lasts for a second or two. Cam anybody please tell me what this is? Thanks very much.

Could be the starter. Had a similar noise in my MDX (mostly when cold). Had the starter replaced and no more noise.

Fuel Pump. Does it do it after ignition is on before you start the car?

It depends on where your hearing the noise.. It could also be the steering wheel adjusting...

It may be better to have an Aud instead of a Vid after all, this is a noise problem.

It does not do it after ignition is on before you start the car. It is not the steering wheel adjusting because I can hear that. My guess is the starter. I can't hear it if I start the car with the door open and also can't hear anything under the hood.I do not want to start replacing things at considerable cost to find out the problem. By the way what does Aud and Vid mean? Thanks for your replies. Much appreciated.

Aud = Audio (noise), Vid = Video (Picture).

I think there are too many things it could be without more info. I think a video with good audio quality would be your best bet. Aim the camera on your hand so we can see exactly where in the turn it happens.

I think he means, wouldn't WE all hear it on our cars.

Sometimes, rarely really, my vent fan/motor/mount, whatever it is, rattles depending on the speed of the fan. Annoying, but not worth paying for to fix.

Ive never heard anything at start up, but maybe all of the dinging and the steering wheel extending distract my hears from the vent LOL
