throttle body bypass/ crankcase vent

has anyone performed this on the rl. i have done this on hondas in the past with success. i was going to run both valve covers to a catch can. i would plug the coolant passages on the throttle body and just loop it on the manifold.

thanks
ryan

What manifold are you proposing?

not a different manifold. i havent looked real close at the motor. but the coolant comes from the motor to the throttle body and back to the motor. just bypass the throttle body so coolant doesnt heat it up anymore. just wondered if people had done this on the rl.

What do you gain? Why would the manufacturer run the coolant through the throttle body if it didn't need cooling?

I'm not trying to troll your thread, I really just don't understand. My statement about the manifold was regarding what I though to be an absence of one of the manifolds, but I think my memory was serving me wrong. I know the RL combined one of the manifolds with another part of the engine that wasn't a typical setup for most cars. However, I can't seem to find what I am remembering.

i think car manufacturers do things that arent always in the best interest of the car. lots of things change do to new regulations, that doesnt mean they are better. i dont remember the exact reason. there are tons of threads on this all over the internet, but here is one on the tl board

There is no need to do this on the RL. Crank case vent into a catch can performance will be seen best by Forced induction setups. where some of the boost pressure can leak past the piston rings, Which creates excessive crank case pressure that the stock PCV cannot keep up with boost pressure.

thats a good point. i just thought that it would be better for the motor. not necessarily better performance.

RL motor is pretty healthy where its at. Simple bolt ons can help some. but it is a very limited market Just wish they all had dual cam vtec

He's talking about the coolant lines usually located under the throttle body. These are usually placed to help cars in colder climates warm up faster. Removing the lines and recirculating them to each other usually help keep intake temps lower.

Actually he is talking about the crankcase venting system. her clearly stated about inserting a catch can in the system

He's talking about both the crankcase venting system that runs into the throttle body AND the throttle body coolant lines. Unless you live in a very cold climate, you would see a slight benefit from bypassing the coolant lines off the throttle body. They run hot coolant through the throttle body to prevent it from freezing over. They also vent the crankcase for obvious reasons.

On every past Honda and Acura I've had, I put a crankcase breather filter on the crankcase, removed the venting tubes from the throttle body, and bypassed the coolant lines on the throttle body. But with the RL its just not worth it. I may bypass the coolant lines now that you mention it though to get a better throttle response and some cooler air entering the manifold. But I'd really have to be bored LOL

yea you dont have to do that on the RL. Just change your PCV valve every year or so keep it breathing good.
