Tail light problem

One of the LED's burned out on my tail lamp. Its the circle part that illuminates the tails when the headlights come on. Only one LED is out. What is weird is that sometimes it will come on but most of the time its off. I took it to the dealer and they told me it's not worth replacing because you have to buy and change out the entire tail light assembly. Has anybody else had this problem?

That's the downside of LED lights -- if one goes, you might have to replace an entire assembly. From a safety standpoint, your lights still work with a blown LED (where a burned out incandescent is fully dark), but its an aesthetic bummer to be driving around with a burned out element.

Yeah it sucks having some bad ass LED tails and then at the top you have a burnt out LED.

Just out of curiousity, what did the dealer quote you to replace it?

$600.00 for a whole new assembly, the advisor didn't mention if labor was included. They told me it's not worth replacing unless all the LED's go out.

Jesus christ. I hope mine doesn't die anytime soon.

come to think of it, it might not be a bad idea to get a banged up RL in the backyard for parts

Yikes, that's expensive!

If you ever have to do it, don't pay for installation: this is a super-simple job that you can do in about ten minutes, total. There's a thread somewhere on here where I step-by-stepped the swapover of the turn signal bulbs...you can see how to remove and replace the light assembly.

Yeah, I was thinking about just looking around for a used assembly. The only thing is, this car is not that popular so it has been a challenge to find a used driver side tail light assembly. The quest will continue though.

I am still not content that you have to change out the "whole" light assembly for 1 bad LED light. But go check e-bay / cl , i have seen them around for half of what the stealership is asking. GL
