Is there a preferred technique for applying touch-up paint so that the paint is not splochy? I do have an Acura touch-up pen.

There are some great online tutorials on how to apply touch up paint for chips. Don't have the links offhand, but you can probably find them on google. As far as scratches go, I usually try to clay bar off the scratch first if it's very minor. I've had great success with this method. If that doesnt work, then you can try buffing, wet sanding and buff is the last option.

Even better: our own Wash and Wax forum, where actual detailers hang out on our own shores.

Thanks so much guys - overall I have found Acurazin to be very helpful and friendly. It si nice to not have to dodge the accusations from members of other boards.

There's a autosharp pen that I used for my MDX. I found some scratches on my RL too and used a clay bar and then I buffed it out using spray wax. I did this yesterday and it worked for me.

As for the pen it works wonders, unlike the brush. Go to autosharppen.com

IF it is just surface scatch, just get it buffed out. I had that done and you cannot even see anything. Uusally the dealer has a contractor to come by and take car of any scratches, and they do a great job. The guy at the dealer I go to, just takes whatever I give him.
