Steering Wheel - 09 to my 06 RL - does it fit?

I was wondering something and hope someone already has experience in doing the same:
If I wanted to get 09-12 RL version steering wheel into my 06 RL, I believe it will fit just fine.
My question is however about the airbag: is this a perfect fit? Will I be able to have shop transfer over airbag just fine, and install 09-12 version steering wheel without the hitch?
I have not decided yet if I want to buy it but in the case I find one, just considering my options.
Thanks all!
PS Searched and did not find anything related to RLs steering wheels.

Are you considering this because you cannot find the ASpec steering wheel?

I am 99% sure it is the exact same wheel and airbag, but they want $200 more for it.

Wood steering wheel accessory. Some called it "ASpec" because it was part of the factory upgrade options.

Yeah, steering wheel I found had wood accents on it, but I am not much concerned about A-SPECing my RL, but getting that nice comfortable thicker steering wheel feel , plus my driver airbag Acura logo sign has peeled and looks shittie

Steering wheel doesn't come with a new airbag cover. There is a thread for potential fixes to the emblem.

Do you know if the 09-12 steering wheel would fir though? I like the feeling of it in hands, in comparison to my 06 slim-slim wheel

It absolutely will. It's identical to the '05-'08 factory option, but with an increased price tag.

100% it will fit, my wood wheel is off an'09-'12. You can just swap over the airbag and you're all set.

Starting to look for used 09-12 steering wheel, finding none at the moment - so I checked new parts, and ran into three different ones...

78501-SJA-A71ZH
78501-SJA-A71ZF
78501-SJA-A71ZG

I assume these three are for different trims, and I guess I need the one that is for "tech" version? since I have the NAVI on my 06 RL?
What part number was your steering wheel that fit your RL?

Thanks!

Are you sure those aren't interior color codes? The wheel doesn't come with buttons either. Those are separate parts and need to be transferred from the old wheel to the new one. Other than color, all wheels are the same.

I agree, I'm pretty sure those are just the different color codes, but I bought mine used off an LKQ auto parts ebay listing.

I don't know what color your interior is, but I just saw an RL part out show up in Chicago that has a wood wheel. He might be willing to give you a good price

I have black interior and kind of set on 09-12 wheel design hoping to find one at some point... I guess it is not much of a "has to be wood" but that thicker style wheel that I like

I see - I just looked better into those photos and 2006 version has that thicker steering wheel... was this an optional advance package steering wheel available even on 05-08? I wanna say this one is the first one I saw with this thicker model steering wheel - but then I did not look enough into detail assuming it was not available on 05-08 before...

The "wood" wheel was a factory option and accessory for the KB1. The exact same wheel became standard on the KB2.

If all you're after is the feel of that nice thick rim in your hands, you can just pop $50 or so for a lace-on Wheelskins black leather cover for the rim. I did that specifically to minimize hand and wrist fatigue on long drives. You've gotta be really diligent about lacing it tightly so there's not an unsightly gap around the inner diameter of the wheel, but after I fixed that I really liked the look and the feel.

Another option is to go get your wheel re-wrapped

So, I never gave up looking for the wheel > not extensively I must admit, but there was at least couple of dozen times I searched for it as I imagined I could find it for cheaper than brand new dealer 450-500$ price.

LKQ did it for me: found 2009 one for $107 shipped - super excited

Hey man, when you ordered yours from LKQ did they ship only the steering wheel or it came with buttons and perhaps deployed airbag?
I think you mentioned you got the buttons with it but not sure about airbag.
Reason I am asking is the acura emblem on the airbag cover... if they ship it all, that’d be great because I need to replace the emblem as well.

Attached is the photo of the actual steering wheel I ordered.

Thank you!!!

TYY!!!

Mine was advertised without the airbag and it came without one. It did however include all the buttons!! I'm not sure they would include the airbag since it's been deployed but I'm sure you could probably call them and explain why you need the airbag: for the logo. Hope that helps!!

mine came with all the button and no airbag despite the picture was similar to yours, They couldn't sell you the deploy airbag tho as it tangle with too many liability and many of them regulated by the Federal government. I would ask them for a close up pic as the wheel can peel off the top coating.

While I was waiting for the delivery of the steering wheel (which I received today), I was browsing on LKQ Online and found a vehicle that had wood knob (gray interior).
I could not find any part where the wood knob was listed or included, I called them and inquired about it. Turns out, they do not sell knobs individually but only as a part of the Shift Assembly... $55 total... so, I went ahead and purchased the part for the knob alone

I'll be installing the steering wheel in the next couple of days and post final results. The condition of the steering wheel is 99% perfect / like new except buttons showing some wear, but not nearly as my current buttons. Pretty satisfied with the purchase
PS They did not include deployed airbag or emblem so I had to send them a separate inquiry about it... I am tempted to plastidip acura emblem in black (grrrrr)

That looks great! What year is it? Do you have any issues with oil burning that 3.7 engines are prone to?
Trying to figure out if RL had this issue at the scale as TL did... If not I would eye 2012 upgrade for sure

Here is my installed wheel:

lol mine is a 2006 KB1 the reason I joke about kb1.5 because the center trim, steering wheel and climate control actually from a 2010 RL.

Nice!!! I did not even notice the shifter being KB1 but upgraded trim ... I might follow your steps and grab this trim if I find it available and throw that in... considering the charger/lighter input is on the opposite side, did you have any issues moving that around? also, What are the parts called that have wood trim around the shifter and the cupholder top cover?

I searched LKQonline and closest thing I could find was this:

https://lkqonline.com/2009-Acura-Rl-.../+i~176715463/

But something tells me this console is the one around all the buttons, not the trim around the shifter and cover/top closure for cup holder... hmmm :/
