Steering vibration

Currently running on Continental DWS with approx 45,000 miles on them. According to recent thread check, i'm at 6/13th. For past 1000 miles or so, i started noticing slight vibration at high speed (70mph+). Could this be related to tires getting too worn out?

I'm also seeing slight shake at braking. Car has approx 79k miles and never had rotors re-surfaced so i'm thinking it's time to re-surface them. Still on original pads and rotors.

any thoughts on what else i can heck to eliminate these shakes?

If you have steering vibration on braking, it is most likely from brake pad deposits on the rotors or (less likely) warped rotors. You just need the rotors resurfaced. No biggie to arrange at your dealer or favorite brake repair shop.

I just had this issue on my RL at 75,000 miles. It was resolved by a tire alignment and BALANCE.

I had a similar problem on our Pilot - the issue was a slight hop on the inside of the two front tires - replaced under warranty, and no more vibration, it's as smooth as butter, they mentioned a little vibration still during braking which is just the rotor, but it's not noticeable during driving at any speed. We'll get the rotors resurfaced during our break job in a couple of months.

Right. i'm leaning towards warped rotors for shake while braking but what about on regular driving? could it be from worn-out tires?

In the uk there was a bulletin about front discs warping, I've just had mine replaced at 70k and brake judder gone. I think you call discs rotors!

boboya, if you read my post - the regular driving vibration could absolutely be from the tires, and the braking from the rotors.

When was the last time you rotated the tires? Tires do require rebalancing as the tread wears down. You start to notice the vibration around 80 mph and it works its way down to 70 and lower as time goes on. Just swing by your favorite tire shop and have them rebalanced. It will be smooth again.

In our case, the rebalancing didn't help, the service manager noticed a slight hop in one of the front tires on the inside, he replaced both the front tires for us under warranty (only had about 6k miles on them) and it's been smooth as butter, so if the balance doesn't help, it could still be the tires.

Yeah, sounds like the tires were out-of-round. A road-force balancing should identify this immediately.

Turns out tires need to be rotated/balanced. i usually rotate them every 5k and didn't think about balancing on last few check-ups. Got it done last weekend and RL is driving like a butter!!
