Angry Stay away from deep puddles!!!! I blew my engune!!!!

ENGINE. I drove through water just above the door line. It must of splash up into the air intake above the driver side head light and "hydro-locked" the engine. A friend of mine who owns a good mechanics shop pulled the plugs and couldn't even get it to crank by hand. I'll call my insurance agent, but we've already had a couple of accidents in the last two years.

KEEP OUT OF PUDDLES with your RL!!!

Wait wait wait, you are telling me you went through a "puddle" or a flooded road that was up to your doors?

I would think that all the plastic in the fenders and under the nose would prevent all this.

Were you running a cold or direct air aftermarket intake?

Yes, this can happen, but not in any old puddle. It had to have been DEEP. Why did you go through something like that?!

Yes bro i don't have an intake and i don't even go thru water that high. To be honest i don't go thru anything that is not safe. I go the long way.

I have a nice ass car that i will not fuck it up going thru water. Come on brosky. U need to use common sense.

Sorry to hear you blew your engine. And i work for state farm and you policy will get surcharged b/c we will consider that your fault. Not using your cabeza <--- head...

Dumb move. Sorry to say it like that.

Good luck bro...

Fyi...
(nice cars are not meant to go thru puddles... Our cars are not boats. Lol)

I have been reading about this " hydro lock" and it says that gas engines won't normally get some serious damage in the engine in case water gets into the air intake because the first thing that would happen is that it will choke and stall the engine, unless you are driving at high speed and that happened, then damage is a possibility. How true is this? By the way, Connoly, how is the car now?

By the way, how do you turn the engine manually? Do you do it by turning the pulley on the passenger side of the engine with let's say a wrench or it's done in some other way, and in which direction do you do it, clockwise...counter clockwise? I'm just wondering....

Turn the crank pulley with a long ratchet/breaker bar and a socket.

Easier done with all the belts off.

The NSX seem to not have any problems with *small* water puddles?

agree,,,, I never take such chances with flooded roads. I do miss my Isuzu for those 'adventures'.

the SSX is rear engined, so likely the air intake is better shielded from that driver's idiom.

Water deep enough to get to the ABOVE THE DOOR LINE is bad for any low-clearance car like the RL. Jeez.

The title of the thread is correct--stay away from deep puddles.

My guess is he (NSX) had an AEM intake with the bypass valve. That is about the only way that thing survived.
