When the car doesn't start, what does happen? Nothing? Or does the car crank slowly (or quickly) but not catch? Do you just get a fast clicking?

We we need more info to help you. Simply throwing parts at the car before breaking down what's happening usually ends up making the fix a lot more expensive.

you'll need to remove battery and battery tray.
there's a hard to reach bolt on the underside of the tray.

once the battery tray is out of the way, you have clear access to starter

Yea the battery tray bolts are a bitch. After that it's pretty straight forward.

I have the same issue, and code (check starting system) had a Acura dealer replace starter for over $ 500.00 dollars, and I still have the same problem. They then replaced 2 start system relays, I intermittently still have the same problem. It may not be the starter.

I had a similar issue. Occasionally would not start and get the msg. Coincided with some funky lock/unlocking cycling after car was in park. I took a shot and replaced the transmission selector sensor. Had to remove Battery tray to get to that too, but both starter and locks run through that. Never had an issue with either since.

That's the part I have been suspecting was the culprit. When the car won't start and I get the check starting system code, I put the car into neutral and back to park and the car will start.
I told the Acura dealer in a near northern Suburb of Chicago what the symptons were. but they just replaced the starter and never fixed the problem. So i've been self diagnosing the problem.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
