Squueky Center Console

I recently purchased an 07 RL and am luvin' the car so far. Only complaint is that the center console where all the controls are is very squeeky. Every lttle bump in the road causes the squeek. I have yet to hit my first maintainence check point and will ask the dealer to take a look at it then. I searched this forum and did not come up with any hits of others having this problem and am wondering if it will just "go away"?

I had this problem and put thin color-matched strips of fabric where the silver trim made strong contact with the dashboard (blue arrow). In some places, this silver trim tower makes very hard contact with the dash.

I also put a little black felt behind the wood (yellow arrow), but I don't think this was the source of the problem.

I used a jewelers screwdriver to gently guide the fabric strip behind the trim tower so as not to scratch anything. This part of the dash has now been quiet for the better part of a year.

Also the 'Not an Ashtray" bin assembly at the bottom of the center stackhas been a noted squeek / creak culprit. And the trim panel surrounding the shifter plate.

A good tech can work those out. They have enough reports of the creaks to address them.

I had the death creak you described, but addressed it and now it is silent.

Don't get me started on Squeeks! Aiiigggghhhhh!

I've come VERY close to pulling the trigger on a trade-in twice because of 'squeeks'.

I'm still attacking them one at a time...but even when you think you've got them...the weather will change...and if it's hot or cold... they'll come back

Heh NavyDoc, don't get your BP up! Sorry I raised a sore point with my post but I feel your pain. A $45K vehicle that has been in production for several years now should have the squeek problems licked by now. I live in NJ so I'm sure I'll have the issue of weather changes affecting this too. Oh well, I will bring this to my dealer's attention at my next maintenance visit, but I'm not going to get bummed out about this yet.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

Wow, I guess some of you guys are just unlucky. My '06 has been gloriously rattle/squeak-free for a year and 14,000 miles now.

To the original poster, I might suggest checking your tire pressure. Many new cars are delivered with 45-50 psi in the tires and that can cause a jolting ride that will make almost anything rattle!

Nope-won't gp away probably. Mine started at about 1000 miles and I still can't pinpoint the noise. Sounds like something rattling under the steering wheel. And the center console squeaks also... both real annoying with the stereo off. But it's a great sound system so I play it often.
