Info on Spoon RL

Got that RL down to 2750 pounds, but left the motor surprisingly near stock. Also used the original brakes but with a special motorcycle brake fluid that handles high temperatures. Lots of interesting stuff about making the RL into a racer.

I was surprised at the robustness of the stock brakes, but then with 4000 lbs, I guess they need to be pretty robust.
The statement about the 4 piston brake calipers front and rear made me walk out to the garage to take a look at the car. If we have four in the front, they are definitely not four in the back. Further research on the internet yielded this for the 2006 US Spec RL:
"12.6-inch cast-iron ventilated front rotors use aluminum 4-piston calipers. These multi-piston calipers are extremely rigid, and are derived from racing applications. In back, 12.2-inch cast-iron ventilated discs attach to their hub with lightweight aluminum collets and are gripped by one-piston aluminum calipers."

Do they get something different in other parts of the world?
Regardless, sorry to hear the car did not last, and would like to see it race again. 2700 lbs is an amazing diet?
Thanks again for a great article.

The RL did finish the race this time. For some reason this was a second 2006 race at Thunderhill.

Looks like the TL was typically getting around 4 to 10 seconds faster per lap than the RL.

A better driver - or one who knows the track better, or whatever - can often jump in the same car and turn laps much quicker than another driver.
