SH-AWD Wow!!

When I left for work at about 6:30 this morning, the sleet and freezing rain was just starting. It kept up all day (in fact, it's still blowing around and falling) at a pretty good pace, leaving about four inches of "stuff" on the ground. On the way in, I passed a school bus that had gone off the road (not far, and no injuries, just stuck in the mud...the police were already there).

I left work at about 4:00. It took a good fifteen minutes to just clean my car off when I got out to the parking lot. On the way home, the roads were O.K. in some places, not so good in others.

The RL tracked stright and true all the way home (22 miiles). I saw a number of other cars slipping and sliding. No problem for me. The only trouble I ran into was literally the last two feet when I couldn't get into my garage. I backed up and went right in...

Side note...when the wipers are in the "winter" position, they happen to lie on the windshield just about where the defroster hits...keeping them relativley clear of ice and show. Don't know if it was planned that way but it's a nice touch.

SH-AWD WOW!!!

Yes, SH-AWD is indeed the shiznit.

(Waits for MikeTX to define the term again. )

I hope I don't have to use AWD in inclement weather for a few months, though.

Similar experience today. We have a long driveway that's sloped uphill towards the house. I got home this afternoon (about 2" of slippery slush on the roads) and saw my wife's car parked by the curb, and a set of tracks going about a third of the way up the driveway. She drives an '07 VW GTI. My RL just went straight up without even any wheel spin. I had to shovel the driveway & put deicer down before her car could make it up to the top.

Exactly.

If you thought the car handles well in the snow with the crappy OEM Michelins (IMO the awd system really covers these horrible tires somewhat well as without AWD the car would be able to go nowhere) then get a set of snows and you'll see what this car can really do.

I have a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi on my RL and it is night and day over the OEM michelins in the snow.
