Smile SH-AWD - idot light update ($8,000 solution)

Just an update to my previous post, the SH-AWD light came on again (3rd time). The dealer working with home-office, replaced all of the SH-AWD computers, Switches and wireing harnesses. They tell me the cost of this was just shy of $8,000. I have had the car back after 10 days in the shop for 2 days now, so far so good. They did an excellent job from what I can tell now. I was really concerned that this major repair would cause other issues, so far so good. BTW, this was done on a 2007 RL with jus over 2k miles on it..... Also, while the car was in the shop they got me a rental. The day I picked up the rental (Chyisler 300 Touring with 500 miles on it), the rental guy said 'WOW, your getting a heck of a rental the car is sweet. I smiled, don't think he ever drove an RL. The 300 is a nice car but not even in the same world as an RL.....

Glad it's working so far.

I agree about the 300. Not a bad loaner but I'd rather have had an MDX. Funny story related to that; My sister in law has an 06 MB S class. In the shop AGAIN this week for a power steering pump. They gave her a Chrysler 300 as a loaner. She wasn't happy

I don't think she's buying an MB next time around. Been in the shop 3 times for significant repairs.

too bad about your sister's car, also can relate to it.... I must say Acura is doing right by me so far, no complaints about the service making every effort to fix this and follow up with me with daily calls for now. They are great, you never know how service is until you need it.

What Acura dealership did you use? Why didn't they provide you with one of their loaner cars? We have all Acura models when customers come in for service.

If they tried to give me a 300 I'd laugh at them.

i thought if the same problem occurs 3 times the car is considered a lemon?

not sure on the laws, but i'd look into it, i wouldn't want my brand new acura torn apart 3 times.

It's different for different states. Some places it doesn't really matter how many times it happens, but if they have it for more than 30 consecutive days and can't fix it, then yes, it's a lemon.

Yes, this problem would certainly qualify for Lemon Law, but, if they are working with you to resolve this and you like the car, why would you file such a thing.

A Lemon law filing can be good for two reasons. First, to force manufacturers to step up and fix a problem they have been unwilling to address. Second, to get the manufacturer to buy back the car if you are convinced it's not repairable.

Doesn't sound like you're there yet. However, if you do get to that point, remember you loose your right to file after 24 months from purchase.

Schaller Acura in Manchester, CT. They have been really good. They did not have any of their loaner's available so they set me up with the rental, no cost to me they even paid for the insurance so in case of a problem I would not have any hassles to deal with.

Not there yet, the problem seems to be fixed. If it comes back they we will see.
