I had a similar but funny experience with the same. My wife had fob in a purse and put it in the trunk when we were packing to come home from weekend away. Started car to drive away and had message that trunk was open. Got out and tried to shut the trunk and would not shut. Tried several times and was getting frustrated before I asked wife where her fob was. Then she tells me its in a bag that was in the trunk!

This was one of my favorite parts of my RL test drive.

The salesman said, "watch this!" without warning and tossed his key fob in the trunk, then closed the trunk. As I began to object, the trunk popped back open.

You might try reading your owners' manual...you'll be amazed at all the little features the car has.

The key fob has pluses and minuses. Plus side is, as all pointed out, you can never lock your car if the fob is in it. Minus side is, when you want to lock you car with the fob in it (such as going to the beach for a swim by yourself and don't want the fob with you), you are stuck with it. My very old Maxima (92) had a computer key pad which could open and lock all doors and trunk. I found it useful during those times when I went to the beach.

I keep having problems with this feature, actually -- it's a bit too sensitive. If I have the fob in my pocket and I close the trunk from the side of the car, it will often pop up again. But I guess it's worth it to not ever be able to actually lock the keys in the trunk.

The trunk has a handle inside to allow you to close it without touching the outside to avoid getting dirt on your hands. Take the extra step or two and close the trunk from the back. It'll fix the fob-from-the-side problem and you'll save your hands.

I had a 90 Maxima SE in Super Black - beautiful car. The Maxima had a "no-lockout" feature where the driver's side door lock would pop up if you closed the driver's door with it locked. You needed to lock the door with the key to lock all 4 doors and activate the alarm. There was a work-around where the door would stay locked if you held the handle up while closing the door. Of course after learning that I locked myself out of the car a few times since I got in the habit of doing that every time.

My 87 Legend had the same feature, and once I learned the work around, I locked myself out, too!
