RL Interior Air Filter

Hello to all, I was wondering if anyone had finally listed the instructions for changing the interior air filter for the RL. I did read a post for the TL and it was very helpful but I now have an RL and need help getting the glove box out.

Thanks,
Paul G

You don't have to get glove box out to change filter. Just open the glove box and pull (from the top ) small piece of material attached with velcro. After this You can pull filter out.

Can you give some more directions? I pulled the flannel piece from the velcro strip, then what. There were three clips attached with screws. Do you unscrew the clips?

What cover comes off? the top or the bottom?

Thanks

Here are the instructions I found (can't find the source right now):

Replacing cabin air filter on 2005 RL:

I became interested in this because the Manual contains NOTHING about the location and I knew that it should be a simple replacement to make...
- open the glove compartment
- pull down the fabric at the back (it is held up by velcro)
- open and then unsnap the upper tray. The tray is held on by three easy to remove clips. (I just pulled the upper tray straight out - it easily snaps back in when done)

Once removed, the filter is easily visible and clearly marked. Pull out by pushing in the 2 side clips and the entire housing easily slides out.

That's it - no tools needed. There is only one OEM filter which you can buy on-line approx. $37, or less expensive aftermarket filters at auto parts stores for $23
(Dealer charge for this replacement is worth checking out, you might be surprised at how much you can save.)

Thanks

I just wanted to Thank everyone for the help provided. I just changed my interior air filter on my 05 RL and it was so easy and it took me a total of five minutes. My car has fourteen thousand miles on it and the filter was black!!! I'll now change the filter a few times a year. The funny thing is that my dealer sent me a card in the mail for discount service. One of the offers was to change the interior air filter $140.00 now that's a real deal.

Regards
Paul G.

Does the upper tray pull straight out as previously mentioned.

Looks like 3 spring tabs hold it in place?

Thanks

Mine also it looked like it was going to be a job getting the upper tray out but it just pulls right out no problem. When done you just snap it back into place and close the upper tray. Anyone can do this it's less than a five minute job.

How to...?

I have located the cabin filter but am unable to release the clips to remove it. The filter appears to be very tightly fixed in place. Are there any tricks or am I missing something? Do you have to remove the three screws or what?
Thanks in advance for any help. PS The dealer wants $70 to replace it!?!?!

If you mean the sliding tray that holds the filter out of the glovebox assembly there are 2 tabs near the edges you push towards the center. If you already have the tray out the filter is not held by any restraints. Maybe it's just sticky.
