RL Body Kit - Yay or Nay?
I'm thinking of buying the RL A-spec kit which will be about $1250-1500 for my black RL.
Before I bought the car, I was sure, but was surprised how great the car looked even without the kit.
What do you guys think? Is the RL better /w body kit or no?

The RL looks better without a body kit, except in black. With the other colors, it looks stuck-on.

I would probably get the body kit if I was still single....but now married and 2 kids, I don't see dropping another $1500 for it. For those who can shell out the $$, go for it....it makes the RL look a lot sportier.
I'm doing my last upgrade to my RL in a few days.....adding the deck spoiler. I'm done with the upgrades! Already spent more than I thought I would with accessories.

IMHO, body kits always look stuck on, no matter who makes them or how they're painted.
Why? Because they *are* stuck on.
The sheetmetal is sexy as is, the designers did a fine job.
You're not getting any real ground effects from your boy racer plastic at any speed you're ever going to realistically drive your car at. Acura did a lot of wind-tunnel testing and aerodynamic tuning (for example, the deflector flaps under the car...) and you're not going to make it better with something out of a catalog, anyway.
So, I'd save the money on the riceboi trimmings and put it into something useful, like tires.
I guess as an aside, I never understood the notion of buying a car at X dollars and then putting another several thousand dollars into "accessorizing" the car. I mean, I guess I just don't get the point of spending $45K on an RL, and then dumping another $5-10K of "modifications" on it.
For me, if I had REALLY wanted to go faster than my RL goes now, I'd have taken my RL money plus another $6K and bought a faster car... maybe a BMW... rather than taking that $6K and putting it into crap to bolt onto my RL, where I'm never going to get the value back out of it when I sell or trade it, anyway.
My $0.02. Your mileage, of course, will vary, but there ya have it.

^ I dont have problems with kits if they are actual replacement parts or molded. The current bodkits for the RL I really don't like because they attach to the bumpers and add extra lines. Now, if they were custom molded by your bodyshop and made seamless.... tht would be hot.

Here is an example,
A 350z with a rear kit, note the extra line which shows it's an add on to the current bumper:

Now, here is my bumper with the same rear lip, but custom molded:

I am pondering the kit myself at the moment and the thing is that the front of the A-Spec kit doesnt look so good, and may actually "rice - up" the appearance of the car. I'm just not digging what they did around the fog lights. The Amuse brand kit looks really hot in the front, and very reminiscent of the OEM kit for the 2nd Gen TL. But the Amuse kit is about $2500 vs. $1200 for the A-Spec kit. If I go with a kit I will probably get the Amuse front and the A-spec sides and rear.
As for whether the car 'needs' a kit at all, I am on the fence about it. I had the OEM kit on my 2nd gen TL WDP and really think it enhanced the appeance of the car. But the 2nd GEN TL wasnt much of a looker without the kit IMHO. The RL however has a more interesting body style even in its stock configuration.

Go Big Blue!
To each his own. I agree the front and rear pieces look like add-ons (if your looking). The side rails are complete replacements from the original part and look very stock.
Regardless, I still think it looks better with the kit. The front noise was too weak looking. I put it on my white RL.

Has anyone seen the Mugen M1 design kit? I just happened to stumble upon them this evening.
