Here's something to consider: Caddy replace the venerable "Seville" name with the STS. People still buy the car. In fact, the STS outsells the Lexus GS. Why is that? Changing to an alphanumeric name didn't seem to hurt that car.

1991 Legend emblem is totally different in shape, size and design.

Caddy was trying to get away from it's old fud reputation and attract a client base. Seville would not attract younger buyers. Most would not know what Seville meant!. It was a smart move (add in radical styling changes and the classic rock adverts and you have progress).

Acura had no reason to run away from the LEGEND reputation and brand recognition. LEGEND was the icon of Japanese premium and Acura pissed it away. Lexus and eventually Infinity gave them a run for, and beat out Acura for that iconic reputation. Then some marketing genius decides, hey we should be like Mercedes. Well as we all know, Acura will never make Mercedes brand reputation. Acura HAD something with LEGEND. It would be like Mercedes, which has achieved iconic German brand AND luxury brand reputation deciding to abandon that by deciding to go with names like ELEGANZA. Big mistake.

Acura is foolish to emulate Mercedes, even if just in naming conventions. What we drive can simply be called LOST LEGEND.

SHOULD Acura design and build a North American appealing flagship, perhaps slotted above the RL, it would be the ideal opportunity to bring the return of a LEGEND. Hell if Hyundai can bring the Azzera and Genesis to market so quickly, and just positioned above each other AND the current product line, why can't Acura?

What's the right position for the Legend lettering?

A helpful guide would be to know which letters from LEGEND replace the original 'R' and the 'L' on the trunk.

Are the original letters just stick-ons, or do they pin positioners?

A PM to Qatar would be the best way to find out. He has already done it. Look for the Honda Legend Grill thread.

It is known that Acura dropped the Legend name because it became more recognizable than the Acura name brand. People knew what Legends were but not Acura. They also wanted to mimic the premium brands with number/letter names. They all do it now.

I had 2 Legend Coupes, great cars. I love my CLS coupe but it's no Legend.
The 95 Legend LS coupe MSRP'd at $43k. That's a lot of yen in 1995. It was built like a tank.

The Legend could be placed anywhere you want, and it replaces the original "RL"
The original letters are just stick on, and can be removed with dental floss.
Everything on the trunk is a stick on, except the Acura logo in the middle of the trunk right above the chrome trim.

If I were positioning the letters, which would have the most accurate appearance? (I guess the Canadian RL would be the best guide, since it uses the standard trunk lid for their standard size license plates. The JDM car has a wide opening with a wider chrome bar and the lettering is way off to the right side).

Would it be:

RLGEND (and I replace the RL with LE).
LRLEND (replacing the RL with EG).
LERLND (replacing the RL with GE).
LEGRLD (replacing the RL with EN).
LEGERL (replacing the RL with ND).

So is there a supplier or not for this potential GB, now that we're on page 3 of this thread?

That's more important than placement. I would probably buy one as well to place in the office.

Just fanning the flames for the group buy a little. Respects to AsianTL for the use of the RL photo.

It looks like the LEGEND lettering is of a different size than the RL so my thought about letter positioning is a non-starter.

Any updates on a possible group buy?

I think it was MegaMod Bob! *da Dah DUM!*

He memorizes every post and aggregates them. When not performing brain surgery and Moderating AZ, he moonlights as Miss Cleo. Just watch out for the auto debit from your bank account.

I think the letters come with a strong adhesive backing. You have to peel the letters off the backing paper (or theother way around), and position them on the trunk.

The RL letters are affixed to the trunk with this same adhesive.

Yes, that's true. Also, the letters come off easier then you would think. I took them off a car once (not my RL) and it was fairly easy. Not sure I'm ready to put "Legend" on my car with you guys, but it should be pretty easy. I'll think about it some more.

Someone else was asking for thoughts on positioning earlier. That should be easy. Measure the distance from the left edge and the first A in Acura. Place the last D in legend with the same distance from the right edge.
