Those are what I am using. Stock shocks died on me. Probably 20k and no problems. Terrible time replacing them.

Are these for just the front struts?

I've been trying to find the complete KYB set for my 05 RL. Tire Rack only lists the front and said they don't have the rear struts. So I've called my locally Acura dealer and they priced them at $202 for each rear strut with is twice $$ as the KYB.

The KYB reviews are pretty terrible for heavy cars.

That's odd, as the RL does not have rear struts.

My struts/shocks are toast too.

It actually happened rather suddenly during my last tire replacement, after they jacked the car. The ride got a lot rougher and noisier during suspension movement. Nothing loud, but a low-pitch, subtle "thunk" upon sudden suspension movement. It's almost unnoticeable, and I got use to it, but it's definitely not normal.

The advisor mentioned there is actually a service bulletin about our struts/shocks, that upon lifting, something can fail and make the ride "4x4ish" and rougher for lack of a better term.

I need to get mine replaced as well, although the oem part is rather expensive. The advisor never mentioned the rear shocks, just the front, but it's noisy back there as well.

Anyone replace all four and would you mind sharing how much for parts and labor? Thanks.

The rear seats, deck and c-pillar air bag cover panels have to come out to access the upper rear shock bolts. The manual states hit the air bag label with a hammer to break the fastener, replace. It took me over a half hour to remove the rear interior when I replaced the sub woofer. The front springs need to be re-assembled within a few degrees, otherwise the fork will not align with the lower a-arm. This job is time consuming and likely more costly than the average car.

Hitting the c-pillar with a mallet deterred me from that step when I put in my subs.

I was able pull the c pillar panel down and inward to remove it without damaging any clips contrary to the manual procedure. I wonder how much time Acura allocates for the rear shock replacement and how many shortcuts an independent shop would take.

So it seems like replacing shocks on the rl is a pain the ass am I right? Also is it difficult to install some subwoofers I have a sound system in my previous car and I wanted to pass it over to my rl I have 2 amps one for highs and one for the subwoofer but I think I'm just gonna try to put in the subs how hard is it or should I just take it to a stereo shop??

Not very hard. https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-90/diy-amp-wire-backseat-removal-813630/

You don't have to drill the firewall either. Unbeknownst to me, there is a hole under the dead pedal that you can use.

I found some guy selling some oem shocks that came off a 2009 Acura rl with about 60k what route would you go? Used oem or some new kyb shocks? I can get all 4 used for $125 or $75 each new shock????

I'd go with the guy selling the OEM shocks Haha..but tbh, realistically it would be feasible to run these at an affordable price without breaking the bank, and in the meantime save up for a more expensive ($1-2k) set of coilovers.

Haha of course since your the one selling them to me. no I don't think I'd be interested in coilovers too much for me just for some shocks I will stick with regular height for me maybe get some 20" rims instead but I think I will just end up buying the front 2 kyb shocks

I wouldn't be surprised if the 60k stock shocks are the same quality as new KYBs.

Wouldn't surprise me. While KYB are technically the OEM supplier for the struts (at least they were for the 1G RL and my Camry), they don't ride the same, plain and simple. When I replaced the struts on my 1G RL with KYB Excel G's, the ride was a little stiffer overall. I'd spend the extra money for OE struts and shocks, honestly. But it's your money

The same thing happened to me. One of the front struts got hung up somehow in a stuck position when the car was lowered off a lift. The fix was simply to lift it again and dislodge it. I don't think it's the same problem you have, though.

I knew a guy who was exceptionally knowledgeable who told me OEM was the ideal way to go on our RLs, because there's some sort of sensor in there that contributes inputs to the SH-AWD and/or the stability control. Can't confirm that, but he generally knew his stuff.
