Repeated AFS Warnings

Recently, we've been getting the message icon in the Nav screen saying that the Active Front Lighting is not working properly yet no malfunction has been observed and the in-dash warning light has not illuminated.

Any ideas?

I have had the same annoying problem. Visited the dealer and they have ordered a new position sensor. Next is to have them figure out why the left headlight sometimes flickers, goes out, then back on when I restart the engine. Could this be as simple as needing a new bulb?

You could just turn off the AFS. Personally I think its more of a gimmick than a useful safety device.

It's mainly useful on very dark roads. On lit streets, it's hardly noticeable.

As for turning it off, you can, but then you have the AFS dash light on all the time.

I never considered turning off the AFS. I guess I figured that if I paid for it, then it should work. I haven't found it very useful, either. It's fun to WOW someone riding shotgun, but that's it.

Then, there's the flickering left headlamp that only sometimes actually goes out. Turn the headlights off, then on and everything works. I'll throw this into the mix Monday morning at the dealer service center.

Well we had the steering position sensor replaced although the service advisor didn't guarantee this would fix the problem. Hoping for the best here.

Repeated AFS Warnings

You wrote "Well we had the steering position sensor replaced although the service adviser didn't guarantee this would fix the problem. Hoping for the best here." I had the same possible fix to my 2005 RL, but what seems to have taken care of the problem was replacement of the Control Unit AS (Job 33129-SJA-A02), the HID Igniter (Job 33129-SJK-J01) and Bulb D2's (Job 33116-SL0-003). The work descriptions aren't particularly helpful; maybe the job numbers will help.

I had the intermittent AFS message for months, then the left headlamp flicker, but otherwise the system appeared to be working properly. I have to say that my service rep at Radley Acura in Bailey's Crossroads, VA really got on this. I haven't had the problem for two months.

Good luck.
