Removing Passenger's Side Kick Panel
Is it as easy as it looks to get the passenger's side kick panel off to get at the HFL/Bluetooth module? Or are there tabs involved that like to break the second you try to move the panel?
Yes, just pull up the door sill trim first and it will pop off once u pull on it...clips in around the fuse box. You will also have to remove the glove box and loosen the passenger fuse box to get at that HFL control unit.
I found a post with a bunch of the individual sections of the service manual, but can't seem to find the glovebox removal in any of the ones I downloaded that looked like they should be the right ones ("interior trim" and "electrical components location")
Remove the document tray and then remove the 1 bolt and four screws up top (1 of them is behind the little plastic cover on the upper right corner of the glove box.)...then below are three bolts holding it to the dash brace.
Just replaced the HFL on my RL yesterday. You don't need to remove the glove box. Remove the lower panel then the side kick panel. Disconnect the connectors just below the glove box, this will give you a clear picture of the HFL and the hardware to remove. I think there are three connectors, 2 white and 1 brown. The HFL is held on with two 10mm nuts.

I have been searching for this information for some time.
My wife and my dad both have 2005 RL's. The HFL failed on my dad's car. I bought the part and plan on installing it for him when I visit for Thanksgiving. I took a look at my wife's car and realized that I do not know how to remove the lower panel and side kick panel. I am taking for granted that the lower panel is beneath the glove box. Please confirm if this is correct. I also have the Electrical component locator pdf that shows the location of the HFL unit, but I can't find instructions in here on how to remove the panels.
Does anyone know where I can get these details? I tried to find it on this site and on Youtube. There's much more information on this problem for TL than RL.
Thank you very much for your help.
