Question re: steering wheel shifter paddles

Cheers all, quick question here. Do the shifter paddles on the 2nd gen RL move with the steering wheel or are they mounted static on the steering column?

Thanks,
-Mirror

Just for the sake of conversation, if they didn't it would defeat the purpose.

paddles move with the wheel and they should't.

I find my self using paddles quite a bit when the transmission is one gear short of where I want it to be. Without paddles this car would be traded in for TL same week.

I much prefer using the shift lever to manually shift - I wish they would have maintained this feature in the 4th Gen. TL's.

lever requires you to be in sport mode, starting in 09 you can shift anytime auto or S mode.

defeat what purpose, they shouldn't move with the wheel so it remains easy to shift regardless of where the wheel is......all the nice cars have them mounted to the column

Interesting, I would think the paddles moving would make shifting in a turn more organic.

If the steering ratio was about 1.5 turns lock to lock then I would want the paddles fixed to the wheel because I would rarely have to move my hands. The RL has a turn ratio of at least 3.3 turns lock to lock which requires the relocation of your hands while turning and then you cannot find the paddles. A lockable collar that allowed the selection of fixed position or rotating would be the best option.
My MDX has the ability to up/down shift without selecting "M" which is really a great system. If you paddle shift in the Sport mode then it will stay in the selected gear but in regular mode, it will drop back to Auto when it decides that you are driving without too much acceleration or decelleration.

I'm jealous. Lucky for me, I'm not jealous of losing the knob shift capability. I guess if I got ambitious I could take the '09+ seat temp system and implement into mine.

Cheaper sure, but a little tacky. Might not be as comfortable either.
