Question on Purchasing 2006 RL...
Hi guys, ive been reading this site for quite some time, I finally became a memeber and wanted to get some advice from you guys.
There is a car...2006 Acura RL with 37k miles....black/black..tech packg.. acura certified.
I am pretty dead set on getting an RL..and I live in michigan, limited supply of used cars. I recently went to acura dealer of Ann Arbor. They showed me the car, test drove it twice, absolutely loved it. I was ready to purchase, and they knew I was seriously intersted as well. now is where the fun part starts...
They had priced the car at $36,999!!!...i told them they were crazy, and offered $31k INcluding an extended warrranty to 7yr/100k. They claimed that was too low, too much money put into the car. then the manager comes out, gives me a story ....blah blah...I didn't buy it(btw im about to start residency...he prolly figured i was a dumb punk kid...once he found out I was a doc...figured i had money to burn!) anyway, they offer me 34k plus ttl. i refused...and says "DOC..i can't do better than $33.5k..im losing $180 on the car. I got called in from hospital so I had to leave and thought it over. I knew i could get a new one for around 41k..so i was debating.
Three days later, I get a call from salesman...acting like he went to war to get me a deal on the car, says...."you can have it for 31.5K plus warranty". I called his bluff, and told him i was disgusted with there games and I could go to Chicago area and find same car for 27k. Keep in mind, this car has been sitting on there dealer since JANUARY 2008!! the dealer also posted on ebay ..starting at $24.5k...ZERO bids. The funny part is, they took my credit card, when i offered 31k the first time...and there GREED finally caught up. The salesman keeps calling...but i give him no response. What do you guys suggest i do?
I looked at trade in value...for 06 RL with 37k miles...is ranging from 22-25k. by some Miracle, a patient of mine happened to be a wholesaler of cars...and i was telling him my grief, he said doc ill do some digging for u. Calls me next day, to say that 2005 Rl's with less than 30k have been selling at auctions for $21.6k. He suggested not paying more than $25k. I was thinking offering $28k OTD with warranty/taxes.
i figure i have nothing to lose...they wasted my time...now I will do the same..

Welcome to AZ!
Nice to hear from another doc, even a new resident.
Don't let them hurt you LOL! (If you haven't read The House of God, now's the time.
)
Anyhoo, you have clearly done your research. $37k for that car? That particular salesman has no idea of the market for the RL. The $25k the wholesaler told you about for a 2005 is far more realistic and what others have been paying in the last couple of months.
I'd go for that, unless the $31k offer on the 2006 is for real. Given the way you've been played by that salesman, I agree with your not giving him the time of day.

And again in the Washington Post, same 2006 RL, $26.9K. Same ad for 3 or 4 weeks running. No one wants this car. Too bad, as we all know, it is a great car!
Washington is not Chicago, but this is the lowest advertised I have seen for an 06.

vinodc,
$37k for a 2006 is unheard of. I posted on this forum about a month ago on a 2006 with 18k miles and the majority of responses I got were to go with around $31k. Because i waited too long the car has been sold.
I was able to find another 2006 with around 20k miles and I have agreed to purchase it for $30k. Not sure how the market is in Michigan, but I'm located in CA. Anyways, $30k is just a little bit more than I would've liked to pay, but since the owner is an attorney and has only been driving the car from home to work and taking care of the car very well, I've decided to get it for $30k.
I'll be picking up the car in a couple of week so I'll post some pics then. But yeah, as far as I know, offering between $28k - $30k isn't unreasonable. I'd also try going for a 2006 as 2005 was the first year.

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback so far. NeuronBob, nice to see a fellow doc with such an interest in cars.
Yue3759...thanks for responding. I remember reading ur posts earlier, im very happy you got the car you wanted. I am very much excited to get an RL, its just these dealers, i treated them so nicely, kept in touch, and the ONE chance they get to screw me over, they jump on it. With that said, your right, I wanted to avoid 2005's...but im seeing quite a few bargains with 05's...and since my ideal purchase time is August, i dont mind waiting and looking for more 06's. My logic was, if the dealer is prolly giving the trade-in or around say 24k(i think if they are very generous)...and im gonna settle on paying 28k with a warranty. I barely make enough, but I have driven a 20yr old honda civic...and ive been modest all along, I worked hard, i want to finally treat myself. Ive saved up a lil bit, so im gonna wait till I find the best deal.
Chas 2... do you know wat the mileage and color of the car is? is it posted online? thanks for ur help.
The black/black 06 being a Tech model means it has CMBS, ACC, and PAX, correct? These cars are 'worth' more than the non-CMBS but you have the added cost/issue of PAX tire AND wheel replacement.
I'm pondering an 06 w/CMBS, 30k miles, asking price is $29k.
After the modified 09 RL comes out (this week), and the all new TL comes out (Sept. w/SH-AWD option) prices (and mainstream interest) will dive further on the 05-08 RL.

Did not say how many miles, did not look on line.
2006 RL AWD with Nav fully power & loaded, Low Miles
$26,900 xclnt condition
Darcars Lincoln Mercury 877 587 8546.
And on a separate subject, when they say Tech Model for a 2006, 123456speed is correct, but I have also found many sellers use the 07-08 terminology wherein Tech model means it has navi but not CMBS. Be careful to check exactly what the car has.

Congratulations for starting your residency!, a doc here too. We also get new "fresh" residents in our Department tomorrow July 1st.. sorry to tell you but you will have no life for the next 3 years..
One would think that the RL would have a higher resale value here in the Midwest, go figure..
Hey Guys!. so you prolly wont even believe this. I was 99% percent on getting the Acura RL...but 1% on getting an E-350. I got a call from MB dealer today, at 530pm saying....he has ONE employee purchase code, and if i came in, its all mine. And after an hour drive to the dealer, I LEASED an $55,500 mb350....get this....for $385 a month...with $1140 down!!!!!! I know ur not gonna believe it, i was in disbeliief till i saw it myself. Money factor of .0001 and Residual of 64%. As much as i loved the RL....this deal was IMPOSSIBLE TO pass up. Got it silver/black. Stickered for $55.5k...employee price of 48K. and Mercedes Marketing support on E-class is $4k. Purchase price of 44k. I'm soooo thrilled!

Wow, didn't think you'd pull the trigger on the E so quickly. But that, for sure, was a really great deal. Hope you're enjoying the new ride.
Quick side question for those with 05-08 RL, does the key fob allow the driver to open windows and sunroof? I know the 09 RL does, but can't remember if 05-08 has that feature.

The mercedes I got was a an E-350. With P1 package. Meaning it has, navigation...power rear sunshade..heated front seats...satellite radio. I also got the ipod integration kit. They didn't have the right color combination...wit the SPort package(free of charge). so i didn't get it with it. The few downfalls is, mercedes doesn't offer xenons without the next higher package. And they have bluetooth set up, but you need to buy a module for it, which i chose not to. Clearly the Acura RL is a bargain with all that it offers, but I couldn't pass up on the mercedes.
