Question Question: Do u guys think the 2013 RL will be renamed RLX when it debuts this spring

Question: Do u guys think the 2013 RL will be renamed RLX when it launches this spring ?

Since, the new entry line-up vehicle is the ILX and not the IL. It might be a possibility, right ?

I've said it before (as have others here) and I'll say it again:

This car already has the ideal name.

Legend.

Period.

Wouldn't matter much, IMHO.

As long as it's design right, and got the proper DT to compete(or surpass) in its segment. Unlike the I.......L....

But isn't that what the X stands for in all the other models?

Edit: Just looked up MDX. Supposedly tands for "Multi-Dimensional luxury"

Thought I read somewhere about the experimental, but I gues not.

I was just thinkin about that less then 2 minutes b4 I seen this thread, with acura not having a good idea on how to make n sell cars that actually compete and surpass the other auto makers you never know wat else they will do, once they down sides the RL which is supose to the the flagship car I knew nothing great was in store for us in the future that's like Mercedes-Benz making the E class bigger then the S, may take a few years before acura decides to get back to the original concept of auto making, to me as far as the acura line up has gone I can't see them competing with anything besides your everyday economy cars nothing luxury

No kidding. I've been waiting a long time for this - they better knock it out of the park.

I think keeping it RL will be best for resale value of 2nd gen.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of this. Conventional wisdom usually said the second gen RL was not a big seller because at the pricepoint, most buyers were expecting a V8 or German manufacture, and the styling wasn't enough of a standout from the crowd - with the focus in the market now more on things like hybrid power boost, direct injection, etc to get more power from smaller more efficient motors, it will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Remember HMC stands for Honda MOTOR company......NOT Honda Car Company.....I wouldn't question them when it comes to motors....let's wait and see....

<------ See my avatar. The one and only LEGEND!!

"RLX" sounds like a Microsoft file extension. Hardly anything I would salivate over.

I'm not sure what your question was.

The Honda road map showed a sub TSX sedan debuting this year and a same model coupe coming in 2013 or 2014. There wasn't a name at the time, but we can now assume that is the ILX. If Acura wants to capture any significant part of the luxury coupe market, it is going to have to be cheap. They won't chance throwing in a V6 with power and will bank on the efficiency approach of an I4 with optional 6MT for the fun factor. The market will be rich kids or adults without the money or car enthusiasm to buy a 3-series. All of these signs point to an ILX coupe.

The reason for all of these things is that Acura is an entry luxury brand. It makes decisions off of what will sell the most. It isn't like a top tier brand that throws exclusive vehicles out every other year. Some will argue RL and ZDX, but the RL platform was well established and the ZDX is just a luxury Accord crossover. An Accord coupe based model could be possible, but I think once you get into the full feature ball park, you will be talking nice 3-series $$$ and they would not compete.

Acura's biggest mistake was naming all their cars RDX, MDX, FUDX

I have read recently that in the 90's Acura discovered everyone knew what a Legend, a Vigor, and an Integra was, but most could not identify them as an Acura. The models were outshining the brand. So, they came up with nonsense names so that you won't know what car you are talking about, but you will know it's an Acura.

Agreed. Big mistake.

I got a call yesterday from the dealer asking me to come in to appraise my car because they need trade ins.

I told him I would when the 13's arrive, he also said that the RL will stay the RL and not pic up the X.

We shall see how it goes down in a few weeks.

I hope they are right. Acura needs another class leading vehicle. They have been behind for too long.
