Pulling the trigger this weekend? A questions about MPG first

First time caller, long time listener...

I am prolly pulling the trigger on a 2006 non-tech RL this weekend. A few key questions.

1. I have a total green-nick side. MPG is a factor. What kinds of gas milage are people getting in the second generation RL?

2. What are the best deals that people have found in Texas, and more specifically Dallas? I had one dealer quote me 43144. Are people down here doing better? If anyone in Dallas or Texas can give me information as to who they went to for better deals, I'd appreciate it.

3. Is the tech package worth it?

Many thanks!

1. I've been averaging around 22mpg - it's a mix of street and fwy.
2. I've heard of great deals recently with some factory rebates?? The price quote seem to vary significantly from state to state.
3. If I were getting the 2006, I'd definitely get the option - but that's just me.

Good luck.

1. I get 21-23 MPG, unless there's a lot of stop and go -- then it drops to 18. It's a heavy car with AWD and a high-tune V6, so it's about what you'd expect. It's all about how hard you mash your right foot.
2. I don't know about your area, but look at the board here -- people have been doing better than that lately.
3. I didn't think the tech package was worth it. $6K for the radar cruise and runflats didn't seem like money well spent for me, and I'm very happy with my '06.. I did add the backup cam and the iPod link, though, and I've been pleased with them.

1) I have been getting 22-23 in areas that I was previously getting 10-11 mpg in my last car.

2) You can do better. There's $3K in rebate, so find the invoice price which is close to what they offered you, and take at least $2000 off of that... maybe more. I recently paid 41.5 for a non tech

3) not worth it IMO.

lastly, if you're a greenie and live in Texas, may I suggest Austin? That's where we like to hide all our hippies. LOL

right now I am getting 10.9 litres/100km. That is mostly highway with some heavy foot action at times and a/c on 100% of the time. My best tank was around 10.6L/100km a couple months ago.

I have no idea what that is in mpg because mpg is a stupid figure. I'd guess though it is 21-22mpg or so.

The car doesn't have good fuel economy but meh.

1. You can count on 20MPG overall.
2. Don't know.
3. Not worth it IMO.

I have the tech package and I love it. The adaptive cruise is the coolest thing. I've driven 100s of miles with it on and never touched the gas. All the while cars cutting me off, slowing down, etc. The ACC responded beautifully.

The run flats are a nice thing to have as well. Although I hope to never actually use them :-)

I think the tech package is definately worth it if you like gadgets. I am a technology geek so I love nifty gadgets.

Most of my driving is highway, Reno to San Jose and back. On the Reno->San Jose leg, I can get 30mpg if I drive carefully. Of course, that's effectively downhill! On the return leg it drops to 25mpg. Average speed in both cases is around 70mph.

1. Between 20 -22 mpg
2. Around $41 for a non-tech package
3. I didn't get it because I couldn't justify the cost. With that said, I'm not knocking it. Just like a navigation system, if you don't have it you have a hard time understanding the benefits, but when you have it, you wonder how you've lived without it.

I do a lot of around town driving and I do like to put my foot into the accelerator, so I get 16 mpg most of the time. There's a great corner I go around every day that let's me hit the gas and get the car above 4000 rpm where the motor really starts to sing. Still, that's better than the 13 mpg I used to get with my A6 4.2.

I did some highway driving last weekend and got 29 mpg on one of the legs with the cruise control set at 76 mph. I live in the midwest, so that was a flat land drive for the most part. That's a big improvement over the 22-23 mpg I used to get.

I'm with cwdonahue... I usually am around the 16-17 mpg range but that is all city and stop and go driving. On the occassions when I can have a nice run on the highway I have gone up to about 30 mpg and even ran out most of the tank (15 miles range left) with a total mpg of 28mpg.

Good luck on your purchase... it's a great car... I don't have the tech package so I can't comment. What is on there is sufficient for me without the tech package.

tech pack

my mileage is about 17-18 around town as I drive 3 miles up a steep hill to get to my house. hwy low-mid 20's.

I think the teck pack IS worth it and did get it. As others have mentioned, the adaptive cruise control is great on the highway. I also really like the CMBS and it has activated a few times when I was distracted. didn't really buy it for the run flats.

to each his own!

I live in Austin, everything including cars is more expensive here, than even Dallas or Houston. Cost of living is higher here as quality of life is too.

Also there are only 2 Acura dealers to work from, there was only 1 dealer til about 2 years ago. I don't think they sell many RLs here and you can not get the traffic updates here either. Only 1 BMW dealer here too, same for Infiniti and Lexus. Better car deals in Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio IMO.
I got a great deal on my used CLS-6MT but I went to Oklahoma to get it! CLS-6MT models are hard to find.

Had to comment.

I saw that issue debated recently, and got a good laugh. The proponent - when pressed - couldn't really explain why it's better to know how far you can go on a given quantity of gasoline than to know how far a given quantity of gasoilne will take you.

Uh ... it's, like, the same thing, just reversed. That gallon of gas will still propel you the same distance, and some mental conversion is required in either case unless you travel exactly the distance used in the calculation.

As such, I guess it's personal preference. And in the personal preference category, I continue to find the metric system silly.

Where the heck do ya'll live?! I'm getting 15 MPG in the city if I'm lucky (L.A.) and I'm a moderate driver. A couple weeks ago I went round trip to Las Vegas and before that round trip to Santa Barbara. Both times acheived 28 MPG highway in free flowing traffic going 70+ MPH with the a/c on.

I figure LA traffic is going to kill anyone's gas mileage.

But doesn't CA have all kinds of special gasoline formulations to reduce pollution? Those rob you of mileage in most cases. For example, the "oxygenated" gas in the Dallas/Ft. Worth market steals about 1-2mpg. When I travel outside that area my mileage goes up as soon as I burn that "Dallas Gas" and fill up in areas where the gas isn't treated.

I monitor my milage a lot. My 05 RL gets around 17 city and 26 highway. It has 14,000 miles on it with no problems.

15-18 manumatic/paddles driving for fun

27mpg highway with A/C, four people, full trunk, 75mph, lots of hills....so superb, 5th gear

So, it can be very efficient, but it is probably tuned to within 5% of max tune that an aftermarket person would do (Spoon racing had it up to 320 hp with racing fuel...so 290-300 on stock high test is outstanding)

15-16 mpg. And I don't see how a perfectly logical and organized system like the metric one can be silly, but that's OT.

I got 18.1 mpg on my first tank.

Or, 12.9952808 liters/100 kilometers,

Or, 4.7815141 miles/liter,

Or (in the U.K.), 21.7371937 miles/Imp. gallon.

(Did I leave anyone out? )
