I know Acura sells like 20 RLs a month but has anyone got a price quote recently on a '12? Reason I ask is that I've been shopping for a new car to replace my Tahoe. I drove the TL SH-AWD and really liked it but I can't stand the hump in the rear seat. I have 3 kids so the hump is almost a deal braker. Plus I've always had a soft spot for the RL. It is soooo underappreciated. For a bigger car it handles like a car much smaller. It is extremely fun to drive, built in Japan, bulletproof, beautifully built and in my opinion, very classy looking. Granted, my driving experience in an RL was in an '06 but that car, like the 1st gen TSX has left a lasting impression on me. When I drive other cars, those 2 are benchmarks in my mind of fun to drive. Anywany, enough of my justification of why I want a car that is about to go away. I got one quote of 5k off of sticker for at Tech and to my knowlege, Acura is not offering anything but financing on the car, no dealer cash that I know of [please correct me if I'm wrong on that] Thanks for your help guys.

 

$5k off sticker for a car that is almost never in inventory sounds pretty damn good to me.

There simply is not enough inventory for Acura to offer any promotions on RLs.

The North American 2G RLs completed assembly over a year ago. Acura has rationed inventory to dealers for months even forcing the minuscule sales. Acura planned to ration some inventory as a 2013 MY until the 2014 RLX releases in the spring. But apparently there is not enough inventory to do that so Acura has dropped the 2013 RL from the line up.

That said, I do not see how you can really compare market conditions on RL sales for a baseline price. If you can find one, negotiate with that dealer and settle with what you can get (assuming it is worth it to you). The likelihood of finding two or more RLs in any particular market area to barter between dealers is very unlikely.

At this point the RL is a rare bird and dealers have the upper hand.

 

The RL is an under-appreciated car no doubt about that. I had a 2005 RL-leased a 2008 M35X for three years when the RL lease was up and now drive a 2010 RL which I purchased new. I would grab the 2012 as there are few remaining-it is a great value, luxurious and sporty at the same time. It is fun driving a great car like this that fly's under the radar.

 

I don't know what you guys see in the 2.5g RL. They dropped the car from the lineup so its going to depreciate much more quickly. The whole nav system is a sight for sore eyes and they have barely changed it from the 2005 version. The interior has hardly changed except for some different trim options and a slightly different shifter. I don't think Acura is ever going to figure out how to make the front of a car look right. Their new beak design just keeps getting worse and worse, the 2007/8/9 MDX beak was the only one that ever looked halfway decent. Honda/Acura used to be really great but now all they have going for them is reliability, and nowadays there are plenty of other car brands that are offering that.

Honda/Acura definitely won't be on my list when I begin search for a new car in a few years unless they start offering supercharger/turbocharger options straight from the factory.

If I was looking for a car this year that had the same qualities of the RL but without the ugly design, and dated electronics I would look at the new Lexus GS 350 which makes the 2.5G RL look like an ugly pile of shit, and even makes the new RLX look dated.

The fact that Honda let the competitors get so far ahead is what angers me, then when they decided they actually had to change they went in the wrong direction.

 

Although I am no fan of the 2009+ design changes I still feel this car appeals very well to me and my tastes subject to market offerings and price points. I do realize I am a minority of the car buying public.

That said, last I checked, the demographics targeted for the RL were not the tastes of the well heeled 19 year old.

On the note of who they are targeting? I guess you are in the minority who would think its a wise choice to buy an outdated, ugly car for $50,000. When there are cars that are years ahead of the '12 RL in terms of performance, comfort, technology, and looks. This is why they never sold for shit and its the reason Honda dumped the damn thing.

Like I previously stated the only thing the Acura brand has has going for it right now is reliability. If Honda had the questionable reliability of the German automakers (which are alot better than they used to be) they wouldn't even have a place in the car market. If you take reliability out of the question Acura loses in just about every other category.

Don't get me wrong the 2nd Generation RL is an excellent value used car, but the only reason for that is because its reliable and the cost is alot lower than similar used cars of the same year, mileage, and features.

 

It's been awhile since I looked in on AcuraZine. I bought my '05 RL new back in 2005 and loved driving every one of the 75,000 miles I put on it before selling it in 2009. I sold it to a friend who still has it. My replacement, 2010 Nissan Maxima, was a total disappointment which I sold to another buddy after 2 years. Now, I've been driving my winter-ride, 2009 Ford Explorer, since the springtime. Anyway, my buddy who bought my RL needed to borrow the Explorer for a few days and we switched cars. Wow....it felt so RIGHT to be back at the wheel of my old RL. It now has 120,000 miles and still felt strong and tight. I drove it for three days and switched back with him with a bit of seller's remorse more than 3 years after selling it to him.

All summer long I've been driving replacement choices, E 350, A6, and 5 Series, but wasn't thrilled with any of them. The driving dynamics, the interior appointments, etc, just couldn't measure up in my subjective mind to the RL. I attended the New York Auto Show in April and saw the new RL, but wasn't crazy about it.

Now, I think I want a 2012 before they are all gone. I've searched all over here in the northeast (PA, NY, NJ, DE) and found a few dealers still have one in stock. Getting prices now, most are coming in right around invoice....which may be a good thing for me.

Anyone else regretting letting go of their RL and thinking about getting back in before it's too late?

 

Just go find a used 2007 or 2008. You won't be missing out on anything that you would get from a 2012.

yes, and it is great to have. My current car has it for driver only so my wife isn't happy...but then she drives and I'm not happy, and not just for the butt cooler.

RL is just a Japanese made tank that is made to eat up miles in comfort. It is no performance wonder, but SH-AWD will get the job done.

It is a great used car value as the price plummets straight out of the dealership.

I am waiting to see what the RLX will bring with it, until then I'm stuck with RWD.

$5k off a '12 RL seems pretty decent to me given a lack of supply. The days of buying a $49k RL for $41k are long and done, though. Many of us in this forum purchasing new (me, Tampa?, others) took advantage of that.

However.....a '13 6MT Caddy V wagon beckons...must own one before they go away after the '13 MY. I won't be on the RLX bandwagon after all, at least initially.

Just a quick update. I found a used '11Tech with 15k for 35k. Black w/ gray. Wish it was black on black but I am considering it. Also found a leftover '11 Tech. Forged Silver Metalic w/ Ebony. Dealer will sell it for $42,000. Which would you go with?

Personally, I'd go with the used Tech for 35K. The dealer isn't likely to bend on the prices and paying an additional 7K just to have the same vehicle with 15K less miles doesn't seem worth it to me.

I purchased my '06 with 13K miles. The new car depreciates the minute you leave the dealership, so I figure getting it for less with a few miles on it takes that out of the equation.

 

If the used one is CPO, then I'd say save the 7k. My wife and I have bought two Acura certified used cars, and both experiences were great. They'll fix any cosmetic stuff like loose trim, or mechanical issue (not that we had any) just like they would on a new car.

 

The $35k one for sure. Taupe is a great interior color.

 

Just to clarify, the used one is not certified. Its actually at a Cadillac dealer.

 

15k miles is negligible, and $7k isn't. Both cars have the same warranty except that the used one started when the car was sold. You can still get the Acura extended warranty for WAY less than $7k and then your warranty would not only last longer in terms of time, but much more in terms of miles.

The used one is still the better deal pretty much hands down.

 

Do you know if the owner of the 35K model put his butt directly on the butt-crack air conditioner? I'd go for new, that way I know whose brown stripe it is.

Just a quick update. I decided against the leftover '11 for 42k. It wasn't the money so much as the color. I didn't love the forged silver. So I tried to snag the black '11 w/ 15k using my local chevy dealer to get the car for me. On the day we tried to make the deal, the guy had a customer come in and buy it. So I'm back to the drawing board. I have been talking to a dealer about a new TL SH-AWD Tech. That maybe what I have to go with for the next 3 years until the RLX has the bugs worked out. What do you guys think? Keep looking for an '11 or '12 RL or go with the TL?

Tough call on the TL vs RL. I have the TL and like it but, prefer the RL, a '10/'11 until the RLX shows what it's made of.
The TL SH-AWD is a great, sporty and nimble drive.
OTOH, the new GS350 looks very enticing.
If you go TL SH-AWD I don't think you'll be disappointed

 

Is forged steel the PFM/CSM replacement? I saw one of those this morning and it looked good. The backup lights blended better with that color than others. I would probably prefer another color for myself as well, though.

Yes. Actually, I would just have it shipped. Time is kind of in short supply. I own my own business and have 3 younger kids. Two of them are involved in everything so we are always on the run. Not much time to go look at cars ,but I can pay to have it shipped.

Over the last 2 years while on vacations and business trips I have rented a plethora of cars and when I get back in my RL, it feels right at home, and this car is a delight to drive. We get 26-28 mpg on a trip and I can drive 10 hours and not feel worn out when I get out. Crank the stereo up to 28 with my favorite tunes and I am right at home. There are some nice cars out there for everyday around town, but give me a Acura for a trip any day.

I have not called the dealership, but I agree that this might be one you should consider. It is an Advance and it's the Black on black you were looking for.

Price is a bit high compared to the ones at Concord (12K miles for <$34K), but tell them the going price, offer less 3K than the $36 and see what they say. It's more than they will get if they send it to auction and it's been on the lot long enough that that may be it's next destination.

I found a number of shipping agents that would consider nearly any offer using U-Ship so maybe $500 to $600 with $800 as a max

Why don't "I" consider this one. Because I REALLY REALLY don't want another black over black vehicle. Tough to keep clean on the outside and the leather seats are too hot in the summer and take to long to heat in the winter.

They seem to have a handle on lease returns and reasonable prices if you have cash and tell them the price rather than ask. If you get them snooping they might find one for you, if you don't go for the one in Texas.

I raise my hand too. My 2006 RL had an MSRP of $50K and I paid $43K out the door and I loved all of the 95K miles I put on her.

WHile I don't have regrets (yet) for trading her in for a 2012 Cadillac CTS Coupe, I must admit that I do feel a pang when I see one on the road.

 

Completely agree. No disrespect against the TL, but everytime I got one as a loaner, even thought it was newer with updated Tech, my RL just "felt" better once I get back into it.
