Pretty Good Highway MPG

I'd just came back from a 200 miles road trip - 99% highway. Guess what - my 06 RL got 28.9 MPG This was with AC on 100%. I cleared the B counter just prior hitting the highway on ramp. I have to say - the RL is a pretty good road trip vehicle!

However, driving around the city such as San Francisco with stop signs/lights at every corner... my city MPG is around 14 MPG I guess I will look for an EV for city driving...

Sounds about right for hwy. Ive gotten 30 before. You always do better with ac on, less drag compared to with windows open. I dont drive in the city, but in suburbia I get 23-24.

May I ask what you averaged for speed? 28+ mpg in an RL is very high. I am gonna assume you drove at @60 mph.

Going mostly between 60 and 75 MPH. Light traffic which helped. Outside temperature is about 85 degrees avg. San Francisco Bay Area and Stockton elevation so pretty much sea level. The RL is an excellent road trip vehicle, just isn't for city driving MPG...

I drive my legend everyday in the city. It's great city car if gas money isn't a big deal.

EV is really the way to go for city driving! No hybrid but 100% EV like the Nissan Leaf or the Tesla! For under 60 Miles around town/day driving and an available plug - practically no better option

Also no oil change or any ICE type maintenance....

I just made a 350 mile trip and I got 30 mpg! Not bad for a car with over 200k!

Not bad at all!

For comparison - a new Civic HF gets ~41 MPG @ 143 HP

Just did a trip from Calgary to Kelowna (through the rocky mountains, google it). Got 7.8L/100KM which translates to about 30MPG. Did about 120KPH on average and was passing when I could. Lack of traffic definitely helped because on the way back (LOTS OF TRAFFIC) I got 27 MPG.

I have achieved a 28+ average with 100% hwy going 75-80 MPH (flat land toward the coast though). Inflate your tires to 36 or more, and it's completely possible, especially on stock tires.

I always get around 28-30mpg highway. It is the stop and go that is more like 10mpg, bringing the average speed quickly down to 22-24mpg. I have also been testing the optimal speed for gas mileage, and I'm pretty sure it is well over 55mpg. The RL seems to prefer 65-70mph cruising speed to get the best mpg.

^ I noticed this during my trip as well. Cruising between 70-80 mph is where I was getting the best results.

Also, in comparison to my CL I'm really quite surprised. I figured that a bigger motor and a heavier car would certainly be worse on gas, and am pleasantly surprised that I was wrong. My CL would get 27 if I was realllllly trying hard to get good mileage. The RL did that while leading the highway pack.

This is good news for me. I want to take mine on some sort of road trip and cruise on the freeway. Haha.

Ive been keeping track of my MPG for some time. When I initially got the car it was under warranty and I was beating the hell out of it. I was getting under 14mpg driving around Manhattan and coastal Bergen and Hudson county NJ. More recently I have adjusted my driving style after numbers replacements of the engine and transmission mounts. I seem to get around 15.8 in this area. Highway I have gotten 30 in the past but not for some time. I recently took a 600 mile trip and maxed out around 27.8 averaging 22.9. What can be done to improve gas mileage? I had a tune up at 100,000 and am approaching 103,000.

You should be seeing way better mileage than that. Like I said, I managed to get 30 driving through the mountains. Make sure maintenance is done regularly, tires are properly inflated ect. Maybe get your wheel bearings checked

Not with the new LRR tires.

Little pressure bump, put in manual mode and lock in 5th ... Close to 29-30MPG all day long on Interstate.

This is good news for me, I take frequent highway trips. I sold my Fx35 because it was terrible on gas. I would average 19-20 on the highway with the Fx. Glad my RL is going to be easier on the wallet.
