Possible non issue (shifter noise)

while driving in traffic the other day (I seldomly drive during traffic) I notice during stop and go traffic a subtel clicking noise coming from underneath the shift knob whenever the bar would move from a stop position at about 5mph. its as if the car is going into 1st gear but ive never heard the clicking noise before. Am I being paranoid and this normal or is this the onset of yet another costly repair.

Probably paranoid. What do you mean by "the bar would move"? How loud is the click? If you are stopped, how can it go into first gear?

Turn up your stereo.

by bar i meant the speedometer. i was half asleep lol.
from a stop possition when the car starts to move the click happens when the speedometer needle reaches 5mph which is why I thought it was the car going into 1st gear. I never heard the click before because its so low . if the music was on I would of missed it but now even if the music is on, I can hear it because I know its there.

Is it a continuous clicking or a single click? An automatic is essentially always in gear. The torque converter is what engages or disengages to keep the engine from stalling out.

its just one click at 5mph but if i bring the car to a stop and reach 5mph the click sounds again. it happens whenever the speedometer reaches 5mph. I dont think its anything big because the car runs perfectly with o noticeable issues. Just wanted to see if anyone is experiencing similar "possible non issue."

As Long As Your Not In Atlanta I Say Bring It To The Dealership And Have Some Tech Tear His Hair Out Over It For A Few Hours

Mr. RL I would agree with you if the service at the dealer were free. But since it cost $120/hour for diagnostics I rather take my chances on the Zine and see if others may have similar situations with possible resolutions that cost less than visiting the steelership. But since you are an acura tech obviously, they have engraved the "take it to the dealer" ideology in your mind.

Yeah I always say take it to the dealer for services and for random annoying problems, its always best to have someone working on your car who was trained on that specific brand. But as far as your noise complaint I'm sure its nothing. I haven't had any similar complaints come through.

Out of curiosity, how many RLs would you guess you have worked on?

Sooooo. I guess no one has experience the issues I described above. Has anyone tried listening to the selectee knob area while slowly accelerating past 5mph? I just also realized that the click sounds when I depress the brake pedal while in park. This is now driving me crazy now that I am aware of it.

Sorry, I've heard the clicking and I fix it with the volume knob.

So heavy you really have heard the click. So it's "normal?"

The click when your in park is the shift interlock engaging/disengaging letting you take the care out of park. That noise is normal as far as the other noise without being able to ride with you and have you duplicate i have no idea sir, sorry.

Dude I've been with Acura for five years and Honda before that for two, I can't begin to guess at a number. I'd say on average i work on at least one or two a week, so you do the math I can't count that high

One or two RLs a week is a sufficient answer. Thanks. 2005+ or 1996+? Just curious, not interrogating.

Usually 05+ i actively avoid the older ones. And to answer your next question, i don't like working on them. Service work is fine but major repairs can more often then not can be like opening a can of worms.
