Exclamation Please help! Engine Problems *Codes in thread*

Last night someone switched lanes on me and I had to floor it from the acceleration lane. Emissions light came on and car would shake violently when pressing the gas.

Last night I got code P0303

Switched out all of my plugs and put a new coil on #3. That spark plug was soaked in gas making me think that this was the culprit (none of the others looked bag or had gas on them).

Now my car still doesn't idle correctly and there is a lot of smoke coming out the the exhaust. Not a good smell either, almost like there's burning oil. Not shaking nearly as bad, but still not running right.

I've taken off the battery and cleared out all of my codes doing the Cancel + Guide + Info thing.

Something that is a little odd though is that when I went to clear them out I noticed that these codes were triggered today:

P0301
P0300 (this was from last night though)
P0302
P0305
P0306

I cleared all of those back out thinking maybe it just noticed I replaced them or something. I get the emissions light back on but nothing is shown in my Navi right now so I don't know what code its triggering.

Any idea as to what could be the issue still? I've always had a lot of black around my exhaust making me think there was a sensor not working quite right , but who knows.

Any help would be great guys! I gotta get my baby back on the road!

I just went and cleaned my sensors and started it back up and got the codes to finally display again.

P0303 which is a little weird since that's the new coil which was faulty before

And code ALL-WHEEL77

All P03 codes have triggered again. Runs a little better but still idles really poorly and shakes a bit.

What kind of smoke is coming out of the exhaust?

Im not sure what your exact situation was nor am here to kick you while you are down. For anyone in the future questioning an evasive straight line scenario, 99% of the time, it's better to slam on your brakes than on your throttle. I would have saved myself a trip to the body shop on their coin if I had heeded that advice.

Here's a video of it. I was able to drive it to work today...it doesn't like to idle still and there is some shaking in some gears at low RPM's. Not noticing smoke which is good.

I wouldn't think it's possible in an automatic, but I hope your piston didn't hit your valve. That sounds bad, and a misfire still seems plausible. Honestly, I would take this one to a mechanic or the dealer. .

If you want, I can move this thread to Car Talk where more gear heads hang out and you will get more suggestions.

Maybe here for now.

There is good news. The garage was playing tricks with my ear and the audio. I just listened to it with a buddy/gearhead outside and it's night and day different. It sounds like a legit muscle car. He said the exhaust smelled rich, almost like it's dumping too much gas for the air mixture. Wouldn't the be the result of a faulty O2 sensor?

I guess my optimism yesterday didn't work...bad news indeed. Cylinder 3 has lost compression. I have no idea what that means or what to do at this point but that's what the mechanic said. He said we should know more tomorrow. I don't see a happy ending on the horizon though.

I bet your piston hit and bent your valve.

Mechanic thinks a valve job will get it right. I pray he's right or else it could be a lot of money down the drain. However once he opens it up he should be able to get a look and see it first hand. If it's bent...then it's probably game over and I'll just salvage it. Right now I'm looking at about $1,400 total including the charge from the machine shop and labor.

Did the mechanic check the timing marks?
Is there a way a piston could hit a valve _without_ the timing belt having slipped?

If you over rev the engine, timing goes out the window. It happened to justn's MT TL when an inexperienced driver accidentally downshifted. Even with the rev limiter in place, the wheels overdrove the engine and red-lined it. Like I said, I wouldn't think it to be possible in an automatic, but computers aren't flawless.

I don't think it's ever been changed and I'm at 117,000 miles. He does agree and it's getting a new timing belt as well as the valve job at the machine shop. All for $1,400 which seems reasonable to me.

sounds like the timing belt has stretched with age, or skipped a tooth. I think the service was supposed to be done at 105,000 or 7 years.

It is, but we have yet to see a weakened factory belt even at 125k miles and ten years. The JDM and EUDM timing belt interval is longer than USDM IIRC.
