Picked up our RL today, with pics :o) Thx everyone!
Picked up the car today with some of the add on's we ordered. When we were in with the finance guy at the dealer, he pushed really hard on the Paint Protection Package. I protested loudly that we don't need it, but his points about acid rain on black cars, bird droppings on black cars, sap, etc, really got to my wife, so she said "we ARE getting that teflon coating stuff". Oh well, it's not like I didn't try. $345 for ... well, you know, the ole rust and dust. If it makes her happy, then I'm happy. I wanted the standard black and white Maryland license plate as it matches the car well, but she wanted the more colorful blue "Save the Chesapeake" plate, so I lost there too. I pushed pretty hard to a point, then backed off. I was proud of myself. At least I got the black on black color combo for the car that I wanted and liked best. That's the really important victory.
I almost lost her with the "$895 for lifelong oil changes, tire rotations, and safetly inspections" deal the finance guy was pushing on us at closing. Talked her out of prepaying for that and felt better for it. Maybe it IS a good deal, but the numbers didn't add up to me.
They were at $1729 for a 7 yr/100k ext warr w/0 deduct while Ray Laks over the phone was $1235. He told me that's below cost, and couldn't figure out how they did that. Our dealer was $1872 for the 8 yr/100k ext warr w/0 deduct while Ray Laks was $1435. Again, he said that was below their cost. I'll have to call Ray Laks Acura back to make sure it's the 0 deduct and that it's for real. We will go with the 8 yr warr as she wants to keep the car that long. God bless her .
Our dealer was pretty great overall. Good explanation of the features ad nauseum. I just wanted to get the heck out of there as I needed to get back to work, but was very thorough with the car's features and nav functions. I can't believe the stuff this nav will do. I was all ready to trade my BMW, not the best car for the winter:
in for an RL for myself! What a killer little Japanese cars you guys got here.
So, here's some fast and dirty pics of the delivery at the dealer. I can't thank you all enough for the scads of info I've gleened here in my short week of study...
Going over the car's functions...
Looks like someone's happy
A shockingly blue license plate that only a woman would love
The wave
The cleanest our car will ever be
RL license plate holder
Glassy new car finish
I'm not sure why people say this car is in sore need of an update. I love it's simple, stealthy looks. It doesn't scream "money" like the Mercedes and BMW.
Learning the features by our Acura internet salesman
Finally, no more car shopping. Yahooo.
Our first car with XM radio. I'm so jealous of her right now...
Parked in front of the dealer, getting ready for it's "paint protection". We have to come back yet again tomorrow to pick it up.
You go, girl. You deserve this.
Cheers,

Beautiful car and top-notch color. NHBP is the 'best' - my interior is the parchment. I ended up getting black mats for the 'bad weather' mats. I so do not miss the snow but now that I have the RL I think it would be fun again.

Miner: She wanted a taupe interior but the black didn't come with taupe, so we got black on black, my favorite combo. I like that black is easy to maintain. I was tired of cleaning her Jag's beige interior and it never really looked that clean. In the Northeast cars get really dirty in the winter. I hate dirty beige interiors. Black hides that dirt in ways that makes my heart sing. Pen mark on the seat? Can't really see in in black. Spill tea in the car? Black interior hides it well. Mud from the winter on the carpet? With black, it's less filty looking and noticeable.
Now that we've gone black, we'll never go back.

Congrats! My wife was smiling just like that when she drove off the lot in her new Pilot a few weeks ago. Nothing is better than a happy wife!
OT: That dealer should be dinged for selling Nissan and Mazda at the same dealership, though.

She won't want it tinted is my guess. I don't think in Maryland that you can do much of a tint anyway, legally. I bought a 740i BMW last year and had to pay $128 just to remove the tint before it would pass Md inspection.
They already have the plates at the dealer, AND the title. They're tied into the Md Motor Vehicles somehow.
And yeah, that plate is sure blue. She liked it that way, didn't want the simple black and white Maryland plate that would have matched the car perfectly, so as Paul Abdul would have said "she took that plate and made it her own".

Wow that car is beastly lookin. I agree with you I think the RL is a great looking car and your wife seems to really think so too. As for the plates they really arent bad looking at all. It could be a lot worse then that. I hope you have a great ownership and im sure you will enjoy the car.

I must agree.....
Boy, those F & I guys are good aren't they? "You really NEED this polytetrafluoroethylene dilithium cyanoacrylate polymer to protect your paint! It's the same thing they use on Air Force One! And it's normally $1895 but I'll throw it in for $695." (Translation: I have no idea what this stuff is, probably some kind of synthetic wax that you could buy for 20 bucks at Pep Boys, but it sure helps our bottom line!!)
No offense to the honorable and hard-working sales folks who post here.
Congrats Steve.

Yeah, I figured the $345 paint protection was a scam, but my wife really wanted the peace of mind it offered her, and of course, that dubious "teflon coating - just like a piece of plastic protecting the car". Plastic my as*.
Yes, the car in the garage is a 993

It shares space now with her RL
I told a buddy tonight that has an MDX that we got an RL and he smiled really wide and said congrats. He said the technology in these cars is amazing and years ahead the Germans in their Nav systems.

If you're asking me, we have a 12 year old, so that's a long way off. Why do you ask?
By the way, we took the RL out all day today and I got to drive for the first time for more than 5 minutes on that initial test drive. WOW, what a car. It does everything so well. It is extremely wide though and barely fits into our rather tight garage. I finally got to check out every XM radio station and am blown away. How I lived so long without XM I'm not sure. I want it in my other 2 cars now. Regular radio in my area is dreadful. Now I get it, why it's worth it to pay for radio.

On your old pics it appeared that you have 3 cars, so probably the least expensive car will be driven by your 12 yr old right?

I see now... no, she won't get either of our cars. No way, Jose! She'll probably get a couple year old Toyota Corolla or something like that. She'd love a VW Beetle Convertible I'm sure.

Are you grateful that you don't have a son?
