Does the 05 RL chime when the Passenger does not have their seat belt fastened? I noticed while driving an 08 Loaner once it would show me inside the MID but i never get this alert in my 05 RL. Also the car usually says "please fasten your seat belt" after a few seconds when your driving around, does it do this for the passenger side seat belt as well?

 

Yes, 09 alerts for both driver and passenger. Maybe 05 is missing the seat sensors?

 

On the 05, a message pops up on the nav screen that says the passenger side airbag is off, but I don't know about a seatbelt indicator.

 

The OM does read that after the initial Fasten Your Seat Belt, it only warns the driver. Probably because, as in most, if not all states, it is the duty of the driver to ensure that all passengers comply with state seat belt laws, and all the variations within those laws, such as the front passengers need them, but the back passengers do not.

The seat belt system
includes an indicator on the
instrument panel and a beeper to
remind you and your passengers to
fasten your seat belts.

If you turn the ignition switch to the
ON (II) position before your seat
belt is fastened, the beeper will
sound and the indicator will flash. If
your seat belt is not fastened before
the beeper stops, the indicator stays
on without flashing.

If you do not fasten your seat belt
while driving, the beeper will sound
and the indicator will flash again at
regular intervals. You will also see a
‘‘FASTEN SEAT BELT’’ message on
the multi-information display (see
page 79.)
