Regular or Premium gas?

My first post here.
Just bought a 2006 RL.
My wife wants to use regular gas. Besides performance,
is there a down side to using regular rather than premium?
I know, Acura says premium. Will this tell the computer
that this customer used the wrong gas and that voids the
warranty? With modern engine management systems these days,
I would think the car would be OK with regular or
am I killing the car?
Any thoughts?
Or please direct me to a thread that might have discuessed this before.

There is a thread that discusses the issue.
My recollection is that not only performance but gas consumption also will change (more) with a net value of close to zero.
I don't think the EMS can detect octane but might remember how often the knock sensor retarded the timing and don't know if ultimate or enough damage would result to trigger a warranty claim.

If the price of gas is an issue, then why buy a car that the mfg indicated the use of Premium Fuel.

Why not split the difference and at least use middle grade!
